On behalf of S Gurdev Singh Brar, President, Sikh Educational Society, other esteemed members of the Management, the Staff and students of this College, I extend a very warm welcome to our worthy Chief Guest, His Excellency, Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, Hon'ble Governor, Haryana & Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh and esteemed Guest of Honour, Sh Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration. It is indeed a matter of immense pride for the students who will be awarded degrees, that, today's Chief Guest is a personality who has dedicated his life and career to the noble profession of teaching, shaping the life and careers of his students. Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, a Post Graduate in English, started his career in the field of teaching in 1958 and worked as Professor of English at PGV College, Gwalior for 34 years before 01 entering the field of social service and politics. Having been elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2009, Prof Solanki assiduously represented his constituents and was member of various Committees of public interest. During his years of public service, he has been regularly engaged in organisations related to the educational and cultural fields and has initiated several positive changes. Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki has been holding his present office since 2014. It is a great honour for our students to have among them such an eminent personality who will inspire them to strive and succeed. The College is fortunate to have here today, Sh Parimal Pai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration as the Guest of Honour at the College Convocation. Sh Parimal Rai is an IAS of the 1985 batch, belonging to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa- Mizoram-Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre. He is B Tech and M Tech from IIT, Delhi and has also completed a PG Diploma in Ecology. Sh Rai has served as Additional Secretary in the Ministries of Health, Shipping, Power, Coal, Urban Development and Tourism and has worked in the New Delhi Municipal Corporation, before taking up his present assignment. A distinguished administrator, Sh Parimal Rai has held several positions of responsibility and eminence, having received national and international awards for works accomplished in the field of power, water resources and water supply. His presence will go a long way in motivating and encouraging the students to excel in their chosen fields.
