Essential: Postcode for the driver’s Satnav is BD20 8HY. Remember, we share this postcode with Tow Top Farm our neighbour. They are AFTER us when driving from Skipton and before us if coming from Cononley/Crosshills. We are closer to Cononley Station (the stop 5 minutes BEFORE Skipton). Aireside Taxis for Cononley are 01535 630888. Cars & Minibuses can be hired very reasonably by the day from Peter Watson Garage 01756 792282 BY CAR: FROM LEEDS: Leave Leeds on the A660 Otley/Ilkley Road. After Ilkley near Addingham, watch out for a roundabout with a sign for Skipton. You will see a left turn to Silsden (A6034). Take this LEFT and you will be driving over the hill from Wharfedale to Airedale. Drive through Silsden and get onto the by-pass, turning right towards Skipton. The next roundabout is Crosshills: At this roundabout take the second exit onto a small road with speed bumps that goes behind the petrol station. (see next page) FROM HARROGATE: Travel on the A59 going past the first and second Skipton turn-offs. You will arrive at a roundabout with a Travelodge on the left and notice a sign with a right turn–off to Gargrave. Keep going along the A59 watching out for a sign and left turn off to Carleton. You might notice driving over a canal. The road to Carleton is a small windy road of about quarter of a mile. Once in the village, with the pub on your right, cross over the road and drive up Park Road with the Working Men’s Club on your left. (Read paragraph below**). Drive to the top of this hill to the T- Junction. FROM SKIPTON: Drive to Carleton. Leave Carleton from a side road, do not drive straight through this tiny village. You will see a LEFT turn before the shops, opposite the pub when driving from Skipton; whereas this turning will be directly ahead of you when arriving from the A59; you will know you have the correct road because you will pass the Carleton Working Men's club on your left as you go up the hill. Follow this road up a hill (Park Road) for about 2 miles until you get to a T junction and cannot go any further. **FROM THE JUNCTION AT TOP OF THE HILL (PARK ROAD) You know that you are at the correct T junction because there is a copse (small coniferous woodland) on your left hand side. Turn LEFT at this T junction. Travel along about 400 yards past 2 or 3 fields to the second gateway on the left hand side. WATCH OUT for the small arrow saying Tewit Cote that marks our gate and the white stones. FROM THE LAKES: Travel on A65 past Settle & Gargrave. When the A65 meets the A59 at Skipton turn RIGHT at the roundabout and head along the A59 for a couple of miles - the second left turn off is for Carleton. When you get to the pub (on your right) drive across the road (bearing slightly left) then drive up Park Road with the Working Men’s Club on your left. Drive to the top of this hill to the T- Junction. Turn Left. Refer to ** paragraph above. DRIVING FROM LONDON Take the M1 North and exit onto the M62 for Bradford. Turn off the M62 onto the M660 - the 2nd exit signposted for Bradford. FROM BRADFORD Take the M660 into Bradford centre. Carry on into Bradford Centre. (If you follow signs for Skipton bypassing Bradford, you are likely to get lost.) Once in Bradford Centre, follow signs for KEIGHLEY (pronounced Keith-lee) and Skipton. Follow the A629 dual carriageway past Bingley and to Keighley. Carry on towards Skipton until you get to a roundabout signposted for Crosshills. FROM CROSSHILLS From the roundabout on the A629, go down this road (with small speed bumps) and you come to a T junction in the centre of Crosshills on a slope. Turn Right at this T junction. (You are now travelling towards Cowling along Crosshills High Street). FROM MANCHESTER: Drive to Colne. In Colne at the last small roundabout (after Matalan) where Keighley is signposted straight ahead, look out for a very small sign on the left to “Lothersdale” and called Skipton Old Road. Take this, it is very narrow and will take you down by some cottages then up a hill and out of Colne. This road takes 10 minutes to our home. You will drive over moorland and arrive at a second cattle grid in the road, you will find yourself at a crossroads looking down over the valley into Skipton. The left is signposted Elslack; Carleton and Skipton are straight ahead and the right goes to Crosshills and Lothersdale (you will have seen other signs to Lothersdale along the way). Take the right turn and drive a good mile over a hilly road. Watch out for a left turn just at a copse of trees. A right turn to Lothersdale will come up next. Two fields after this ……. you will see a slight bend in the road and our gate. See a small Signpost with Tewit Cote on. Turn left into our track (marked by white stones) and we are at the bottom on the right, over the cattle grid. Congratulations & Welcome. • FROM CROSSHILLS • From the roundabout on the A629, go down the 2nd exit, (with small speed bumps) and you come to a T junction in the centre of Crosshills. Turn Right at this T junction. (You are now travelling towards Cowling along Crosshills High Street). Drive through the High Street until you reach a small roundabout after the shops with a small Police Station (on the corner, in a house). Turn right at this small roundabout at the Police Station onto Wheatlands Lane. Follow Wheatlands Lane for 100 yards when it makes a SHARP LEFT TURN. Follow this road up out of Crosshills for over two miles. • You will climb steeply along a road with horse chestnut trees on your right. (The imposing crags to your left across the valley are the ones used to shoot the Heathcliff/ Cathy sequence in one of the Wuthering Heights movies.) Eventually the road starts to drop down and you come to a crossroads, where you carry straight on up a very steep hill. You will know you are at the correct crossroads because it is signposted for Lothersdale on the left and Cononley on the right. After you reach the top of the very steep hill, slow down as the road curves sharply round to the right in a long bend. You will see the entrance to our neighbour’s farm on the right (Tow Top Farm). Carry on past this. Tow Top Farm shares the same postcode as Tewit (BD208HY) so Google maps will often direct you there first. • About 400 yards beyond Tow Top Farm entrance, you will see a gateway on your right hand side. there is a post with a sign saying Public Footpath and a small signpost with Tewit Cote. If you get to a copse of trees on the right hand side, you have gone too far, so turn round. •FROM TEWIT COTE GATE • The gate is not usually closed except for a few weeks during the summer. (If closed, please close it again as there will be cows in the field). Drive down the limestone (grey coloured) chippings track which has a green verge in the middle.
