Mayor Brindle's COVID-19 Update W February 16, 2021 COVID-19 INFORMATION The State’s seven-day average for new confirmed cases is down 8% from a week ago, and down 48% from a month ago, and New Jersey’s COVID-related hospitalizations fell for the 13th straight day with the fewest number of patients since November 16. The rate of transmission was .90 today, and the positivity rate for tests conducted on Friday, the most recent day available, was 8.18% There have been 1,411,270 vaccine doses administered in New Jersey to date, with more than 386,000 residents now fully vaccinated. LOCAL UPDATES The Union County Board of Commissioners will hold a drive-up food distribution event for Union County residents to aid those affected by COVID-19 on Saturday, February 20, beginning at 9:00AM in Union County Vocational Technical School’s parking lot, located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. The food distribution is open to all Union County residents on a first-come, first-served basis, with no registration required. Additional details can be found at https://wp.me/p4sLwl-mXm. Lifelong Westfield and the Westfield Fire Department are partnering to offer a fire safety seminar for seniors on Tuesday, February 23 at 11:00AM on Zoom. The topics will include the importance of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, how to safely use a generator if the electricity goes out, what to do if you smell gas, and safe walking practices inside and outside your home to prevent falls.
