Amy Triandiflou 6 peak radar pages 2019 Welcome from Mayor John Suthers and the Colorado Springs City Council On behalf of the City of Colorado Springs, welcome to the new edition of the Peak Radar Pages. We recognize that a lively arts community contributes significantly to our quality of life, fosters an environment for open dialogue, and creates a dynamic economic community. The Colorado Springs arts scene at one time was a well-kept secret — but no more! With the help of the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region, we are working to ensure that our many artistic achievements are widely publicized and highly accessible to everyone. Our City was founded as a destination rich in culture and natural beauty with a strong artistic legacy reaching back to the early 1900s and the heyday of the Broadmoor Art Academy. Now, over 400 arts and cultural organizations call our region home. We invite you and your family to engage with our community. Get involved with arts & culture by learning more about the abundant opportunities in the region through the Cultural Office’s many resources, including these Peak Radar Pages. Let’s continue to make Olympic City USA a vibrant community where people want to live, work, create … and enjoy the arts! From the eastern plains to the top of Pikes Peak and from Monument to Fountain, there are boundless sightseeing, recreation, arts and entertainment opportunities. We have a rich history of support for arts, culture, and entertainment dating back to the early days of settlement in the area. Today, residents and visitors alike can enjoy a wide range of engaging cultural experiences at venues like Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College, the Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts, the Broadmoor World Area, the Manitou Art Center, the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts, and the new Ent Center for the Arts on the UCCS campus. We are also proud to be the home of five great military installations, the United States Olympic Committee, the Garden of the Gods park, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, the Space Foundation, and many more attractions and events. There’s always something exciting to do here in the Pikes Peak region, and the El Paso County Department of Economic Development is especially proud to be a supporter of PeakRadar.com, our community’s online calendar for arts, culture and fun! Please enjoy all that we have to offer, and if you are visiting, we hope that you will accept our invitation to come back soon. Whether you are staying in one of our hotels, bed & breakfasts, casinos, or in your own RV, Teller County truly is the Rocky Mountains in your own backyard. Woodland Park offers gift shops, authentic cowboy chic, art galleries, abundant cuisines from around the world, and acclaimed local breweries. Further west is the crossroads of Divide, gateway to the Divide Trail System of the Pike National Forest, featuring over 60 miles of hiking, bridle, mountain bike, motorcycle, ATV, and Jeep trails with ample areas for you to set up camp in the great American wilderness. Head west to the sleepy town of Florissant and the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, a perfect day trip when paired with Woodland Park’s Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Center. Wander south of Divide to try your luck at the casinos in downtown Cripple Creek, a restored Victorian main street with lots of modern amenities. Just a few miles down the road in the quaint city of Victor which boasts one of the most productive gold mines on the planet. Teller County truly is a great place to live, and it’s a great place to visit, too!
