Jodrell The Chart Amendment Section designed the display for this event. The seven panels focused on how symbols and abbreviations used on CHS charts related to the terminology used in Chart 1 and to the actual features in the field. Each panel consisted of a nautical chart with lines running from specific chart symbols to corresponding Chart 1 excerpts and colour photographs taken of the highlighted feature. This was the final year that CHS will sell charts and publications at Boat Shows. A letter will be sent to Pacific Region Chart Dealers advising them of this decision and encouraging them to sell CHS products at the 1991 Boat Show. Personnel were given an information sheet (copy attached) prior to the opening of the show which advised them which new charts were scheduled for printing in 1990 and information on chart pricing and the availability of Sailing Directions. Sales totalled $9.2K which included 556 charts and 241 publications. 1990 Radio Aids and List of Lights, Buoys and Fog Signals were not in stock at the time of the show. Boat Show statistics are attached as Appendix 2. Public reaction to not selling charts - negative. C. H. S. VANCOUVER BOAT SHOW February 7 - 11, 1990 INFORMATION SHEET 1. 1990 Boat Show The following notice is to be posted at this show. "Please be advised that CHS will not have charts and publications available for purchase at future Boat Shows." The reason this action is being taken is because we have been advised to do so by the Dominion Hydrographer. A government agency selling items at a commercial show is seen as being in competition with the Private Sector. However, CHS will continue attending the Vancouver Boat Show with an information booth. 2. All requests for larger scale coverage and all suggestions can better be dealt with, if submitted in writing to either the Regional Chart Superintendent or the Regional Director, Hydrography at IOS. 3. Arrow Lakes - See scheme - Surveys complete - Results of surveys have not been received for chart production and not expected before the end of February - Every effort will be made to have two charts ready for mid/late July 1990 - The other two will follow in December 1990. 4. Pricing As of yet there has not been any indication of a price increase for 1990. However, we do anticipate price increases. 5. Requests for digital data and requests to copy CHS charts. These requests must be in writing to the Regional Director, Hydrography, stating the reason for requesting such data. 6. Cruising Atlas 3312 Desolation Sound & Jervis Inlet. Will not be reprinted until funds are acquired. Discussions are currently underway and a decision is not expected before June or July. 3313 "Dead in the Water" for two reasons. 1. No funds for printing 2. Content of atlas is under review regarding scale of coverage for some pages and the brevity of Sailing Directions. 2 -2 7. Spiller Channel - (Chart 3940) Will not be funded 1990/91. Production is therefore not planned until 1991/92 with availability in 1993. 8. Fish Egg Inlet Final stages of production. Will be available in September 1990. 9. Queries about small-scale coverage of Georgia vis-a-vis cancellation of 3579, 3594 and 3596. New Charts at similiar scales are being considered, but production would be 3 to 5 years away. Chart 3450 will not be reinstated. 10.
