Drive down Baker Lake Road and take a right onto #170 and head towards Norton Lake, Make sure to take a right out of the parking lot to head There was snow above 8500 feet on the trail. KRD performed maintenance on 5/26/2020 Volunteers 135 Norton Lake Moderate 6 miles RT Hike towards the lake. There are multiple lakes. 6 miles RT. portions of the trail. Trail to Prairie creek was clear with a few patches of snow and miner was clear. There are few creek crossings at the beginning but all were easy to cross with Drive to the end of Prairie Creek Road and hike towards Prairie Lakes and logs that you can walk on. There are lots of trees down at Prairie Lake and miner 10.3 Loop with then if want to turn into a loop head towards Miner before returning to lake was clear with good views. Head towards Prairie first and then to Miner. Trail was clear to miner lake with some flowers and good views. Did not go further due to snow. Minimal blow 5/24/2020 Trail Crew 198 Lower Muley Creek 7.2 Hike Trail. down 1st 2 miles but snowy. Not recommended for stock. 63 Emma Creek 6.4 motorized Open to all vehicles the first .73 miles and then motorized use. 224 West Fork Big Smoky Creek 9 Single Track Motorized Starts off of Smiley Creek Road can connect with Mule Creek or Emma. 72 Big Smokey 17.8 Motorized Trail starts at Alturas Lake Creek TH at the end of Road #205 and enters Trail in good condition but with several large trees down over the trail and mud into the Sawtooth Wilderness, non-motorized, no horses, and in a no on trail 2.5 miles in. Talked to another group made it 5/24/2020 Trail Crew 106 Horton Peak Difficult 5 RT Hike Steep hike to an old Fire Lookout. 2.5 miles and turned around due to snow. Clear first 1.5 miles. Drive down road 207 and stay left to the Trailhead, crosses wilderness boundary at milepost 4 so non-motorized and no campfires at the Cabin 191 Cabin Creek Moderate 3.4 Sawtooth Wilderness Hike Creek Lakes. Can make it to the lakes, patchy snow, passable. Pettit Lake Trails Hike, Bike and/or Maintained in Date Name Trail # Trail Segment Difficulty Distance Wilderness Area Motorized Description 2020 Conditions, Hazards, and General Notes Clear to Alice Lake, patchy snow to Twin Lakes (still snowy & frozen), a lot of snow on snowy side pass (to Toxaway); log-free up to snowy side pass. There is a large rock in the trail, but stock should be able to walk around; muddy with some snow patches around Alice Lake, might be difficult to find a camp spot. 6/13/2020 Trail Crew 95 Pettit Lake Moderate 7 Sawtooth Wilderness Hike, backpacking Loop This is the start of the popular Pettit-Toxaway backpacking loop. Several downed trees from Pettit to Farley Lake. This trail starts at the Tin Cup TH and heads over the moraine towards the 6/20/2020 Trail Crew 41 Pettit Lake Cutoff Moderate 2.2 Sawtooth Wilderness Hike, backpacking Loop Yellowbelly Lake and then meets up with the trail out to Toxaway Lake. First 1.3 miles are clear of trees. 6/25/2020 Trail Crew Tin Cup (Horse Access) 1.4 RT Clear of trees Can be hiked from Pettit or from Road #365 or you can use that road to 96 Yellow Belly Lake Moderate 7 Hike drive to the lake. Clear to the lake Moderate- This through hike starts at Pettit Lake and goes to Toxaway and then 92 Alice-Redfish Lake Difficult 22 Sawtooth Wilderness Hike, backpacking Loop heads towards Redfish Lake instead of returning back to Petit. Popular backpacking loop goes from Pettit-Alice Lake-Twin Lakes and Toxaway, and then returns to Pettit Lake. Need a Wilderness Permits for groups of 8-12, maximum is 12 people in a group. No Campfires in the area. 6/27 (Volunteer) after a warm week, little snow south of Snowyside Pass, but trail was obscured first half mile on North side.
