USC University Hospital Service Area Maps ......................................................37 2 Introduction Background and Purpose USC University Hospital is a 411-bed acute care hospital staffed by the Doctors of USC, who are also faculty at the renowned Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. USC University Hospital has undertaken a community health needs assessment as required by California law (SB 697). As well, the recent passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires tax exempt hospitals to conduct needs assessments and develop community benefit plans every three years. The community health needs assessment is a primary tool used by the Hospital to determine its community benefit plan, which outlines how the Hospital will give back to the community in the form of health care and other community services to address unmet community health needs.
