It is the intention of this report to highlight areas of strength, as well as weakness in school readiness in conjunction with the current reach of OEYC programs and services and the demographic and socio-economic context within which the OEYC operates. The EDI is a tool that helps communities to understand how they are preparing children for Grade one. OEYCs are key members of this community which help in preparing children for success in school. Taken together, the EDI, Census and client participation information can be used to support OEYC program planning to ensure that key areas of child development are supported in programs delivered by OEYCs. This report provides comparisons of the status of the Brampton West-Mississauga Riding with that of Peel Region using Census 2001 and Census 2006 data. Key findings are highlighted to keep the OEYC in tune with the evolution of the communities they serve and the school readiness needs of children within the Riding. A number of maps are appended at the end of this report and referenced through the different sections of the report, to aid in the interpretation of data presented. The report ends with a discussion of how the data provided can be used in practical ways to support OEYC service and program planning and delivery. - 1 - Map of Selected Peel Early Years Sites The map below illustrates selected Peel Early Years Services including the location of OEYC main and satellite sites. - 2 - Brampton West-Mississauga Riding Selected Early Years Services Map The map below illustrates selected Brampton West-Mississauga Riding Early Years Services with the OEYC main and satellite sites indicated along with other early year services. - 3 - OEYC Participant Map The map below illustrates the location of clients using the Brampton West-Mississauga OEYC between April 1- December 31, 2008.
