I empathize with anyone who has caught the Covid-19 virus and wish you a full recovery. It has been a difficult time for many, both socially and financially. Lyn and I have been fortunate to make it through the lockdown (so far) without any adverse effects despite closing our business for two months. As for MYCQ, it was a difficult decision at the time to cancel the 2020 Brisbane to Gladstone Race, but in hindsight we would never have been allowed to run the race. One positive is that there are several new big multihulls on the scene in Australia, so the 2021 B2G may just be spectacular! Other than the B2G, the lockdown has had little effect on our program as we deliberately kept our calendar sparce during the winter. RQYS cancelled the Brisbane to Hamilton Island Race, but the Brisbane to Keppel Race did happen, although there were no multihulls entered. While Airlie Beach Race week has been run and won, Hammo and Magnetic Island Race weeks were also cancelled. Congratulations to Dale Mitchell and crew who won on OMR with the ORMA 60 (great to see it going well!), and Elizabeth Williams who won the Passage Series on Tyee 111. Our "Official" Moreton Bay race program resumes with the Westerly Trophy Race on the 6th September. PLEASE CHECK THE CALENDAR! FLEET NUMBERS FYI, several Moreton Bay Based Clubs have been in discussion with a view to increasing fleet numbers for existing events, and perhaps even designing new events. I attended a meeting at AS (Qld) Headquarters on the 6th July at which 8 Moreton Bay based clubs were present. The discussion included establishing a formal structure similar to "Manly Combined Clubs" to promote greater participation from both mono and multi yachts. Lengthy discussion was held on reducing the "bureaucracy" for skippers when entering races. Further meetings are planned. BRIBIE CUP Further to the above, Chris Wren and I attended a joint meeting between QCYC, MYCQ, and MBBC on the 3rd August at the QCYC Clubhouse to explore the creation of an event based on the Bribie Cup. This meeting arose from my earlier discussions with Jeff Croucher from Moreton Bay Boat Club Scarborough (Jeff owns the trimaran Prophecy) regarding the MYCQ Bribie Cup and Coolaroo Trophy Races scheduled for the 19/20th September. This has been a longstanding event for MYCQ and has proven very popular in the past. The proposal is to build an event similar to the St Helena Cup, based on the QCYC Bribie Cup, AND, the MYCQ Coolaroo Trophy. The goal is to involve ALL Moreton Bay Yacht Clubs. More on this soon! SPRING IS ALMOST HERE, SEE YOU ON THE WATER! 3 From the Editor By Chris Dewar Welcome to another edition of the Multinews. As you might have noticed the July edition was cancelled due to a lack of local news and events. We will make up an extra addition either over the Christmas period or for the Brisbane to Gladstone Race. This month the big news is the Airlie Beach Race Week. With both Hamilton Island Race Week and Magnetic Island Race Week being cancelled this is the only Winter event to be held in 2020. Read about it in this edition. There is also a bit of News coming from overseas with restrictions being lifted. Note that we also have a new sponsor, North Sails that have an advert in this edition and on our website. Jump on and have a look. Stay well and hope you Enjoy this edition!
