Don Cameron was awarded the OAM in the General Division for service to local government, to conservation and the environment, and to the community, particularly through Lions International. He was the inaugural Mayor of the Bass Coast Shire Council 1997 -1998 and served as a Councillor from 1997 to 2003 after having been a Councillor with the Shire of Phillip Island previously.
