This week, we are going to look at a new story. It is called ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. The first one is a mild text, but, if you fancy more of a challenge, look at the second text. Read your chosen text carefully and then use it to answer the questions in your home learning book. Mild Hot Hot Activity 2 Grammar Activity This week, we are going to use commas in lists. Below are some learning reminders to help you to remember how to use commas in lists. Once you have looked at the slides, have a go at the learning activity. Home Learning Activity Now we are going to have a go at writing some of our own sentences with lists. Here is part of the lunch Mrs Grinling packed: Look how I have written a sentence listing the things that she packed: Mrs Grinling packed the basket with a mixed leaf salad, a lighthouse sandwich and a cold chicken salad. Below are other picnic baskets for Mr Grinling. Write a sentence for each one listing what is inside. Don’t forget to use commas to separate the items in the list. 1. an apple chocolate cake ham salad sandwich salt and vinegar crisps 2. a box of peaches chicken salad a cream scone 3. a hard-boiled egg mini sausage rolls fruit salad a cupcake Activity 3 Let’s get writing! This week, we are going to do something a little bit different. We are going to write some instructions. Mrs Grinling made mustard sandwiches to put the seagulls off eating Mr Grinling’s lunch. You are going to write a recipe for a different disgusting tasting sandwich to scare the seagulls off. You can choose what you want for the filling e.g. brussell sprouts, red hot chilli sauce, but remember it is supposed to taste disgusting to the seagulls. Below, I have put an example of a recipe for how to make a jam sandwich. Look carefully at how it is set out: - Title, - Sub-titles, - List of ingredients, - Numbered steps, - Commands (remember the verb goes first). How to Make a Jam Sandwich Ingredients Bread, Butter Jam Plate Method 1. Wash your hands. 2. Pick up the knife carefully. 3. Spread the butter across the bread until the whole piece of bread is covered. 4. Spread the jam across the buttered bread. 5. Put the second piece of bread on top. 6. Carefully, cut the sandwich in half with the knife. 7. Place the sandwich on a plate. 8. Eat and enjoy! .
