You folks at Shiloh Museum ROCK!!!! Thanks for all you have done and are continuing to do to preserve the history of our area. Family with 6 and 9 year olds. Enjoyed 1½ hours and learned a lot about the local area. Everyone working there was very nice and informative. It is a good mix of indoor and outdoor including many buildings. We asked them for a tour of the historic home which they did happily and gave a nice talk explaining and answered all questions from the kids. Great time and I was very surprised it is free. Check it out! We fell in love with this place! It shows aspects of life in Arkansas during different time periods, helping people to see how everyday life changed and progressed over time. Each section has a well-maintained hands-on activity for the kids (and adults) to explore. The items on display are well protected without feeling like a boring museum. Items are documented with interesting tidbits and explanations. The employees and volunteers were kind to the children and expressed a real desire for them to learn. Major Accomplishments in 2017 By year’s end, almost all of the interior renovation on the historic 1871 Shiloh Meeting Hall was complete and work on property improvements—a parking lot, lighting, signs, and grounds work—was about to begin. The commitment to project completion was put over the top by a $255,673 grant from Three movie “shorts” styled after the “Our Gang” the Walton Family Foundation. A celebratory opening of comedies were filmed in Fayetteville, Springdale, and the Hall will no doubt be a highlight of 2018. Bentonville in 1937, using local children as cast members. The Kidnappers Foil films were discovered in 2016 by Todd Terpening, who donated them to the Library of The fourth section Congress where he volunteers. Our library staff extensively of the museum’s researched the films, tracked down many of the child exhibit hall to be actors or their families, and arranged for an eighty-years- completed covers later premiere of the movies, along with reminiscences the 1950s to the by several of the child actors (now in their eighties and future. Included nineties) and a talk by Terpening. Thereafter museum staff are earlier and later created DVDs of the films and the premiere and provided versions of poultry them to all the known actors and/or their families. houses interiors, poultry-processing plants, and retail stores and a look at transportation, tourism, UA research, and how Beaver Lake affected the last half of the 20th century. Slideshows provide selections of late 20th-century photos from the Arkansas Ozarks, and there’s even a place to imagine the Ozarks in the future. Like our other new exhibits, all text is in both English and Spanish. The museum grounds were enhanced again this year by the amazing work of The museum partnered with 132 organizations and Washington County individuals to connect, collaborate, and share, including: Master Gardener “Pastimes of Black Settlers,” a program with the volunteers Washington County Historical Society; “Changing the who assist Narrative,” a dialog between NWA law enforcement and groundskeeper the community, sponsored by the NWA chapter of the Marty Powers and NAACP and NWA Urban League Young Professionals; keep our museum campus in tiptop shape.
