Supply List Apparel Construction 3: Day Dress Portland Fashion Institute, 2111 NE 43rd Avenue, Portland OR Contact: [email protected] PREPARE THE PATTERN YOUR INSTRUCTOR GIVES YOU: 1. If you don't understand the following instructions, wait until the first class. 2. Looking at the pattern back page, choose your pattern size based on your bust measurement. 3. Looking at the pattern instructions, choose your pattern pieces. 4. Using paper scissors with long blades or a rotary cutter, trim around your pattern pieces just outside the cutting (dark, solid) line. Cut off notches. 5. Press your pattern pieces with a DRY IRON to ensure an accurate cut. 6. Mark 5/8” seam allowance lines with a soft pencil at the shoulders, sides, armscye and neckline. 7. Tape below the armscye and neckline seam allowance lines using 1/2” Scotch magic tape in small pieces. 8. Pin together the shoulder and side seams on the SA, wrong sides together. 9. Pin the sleeve together on the SA, wrong sides together but do not attach it to the bodice. Buy the amount of fabric suggested by the pattern for your size and view. Choose a cotton, cotton-poly, chambray, or stable poly or rayon (not stretchy or slippery) for the garment. Do not buy large plaids, stripes or patterns that need matching. Don’t forget to buy buttons. Pre-shrink (wash and dry) and iron fabric. Do not cut it before the first class. You will buy fusible knit interfacing AFTER the first class. Bring your sewing machine, attachments and supplies to the first class. You will sew. ALSO BUY OR BRING: (Please label all equipment with your name) – Thread to match* – Small scissors or nippers – Size 80/12 Universal machine – Chalk pencil or water soluble pen* needles (we prefer Schmetz brand)* – Seam ripper* – Fine pins with glass heads, 1-3/8”* – Seam gauge* – Pin cushion or magnetic tray* – A pen or pencil – Tape measure* – Optional: Buttonhole punch* – Point turner* – 1/8-yard cotton fabric for samples* – Shears – one for paper, one for cloth* • = AVAILABLE AT PFI Supply w/ 20% student discount Please label all equipment with your name!
