He is a licensed architect and a founding partner of Design Earth, a collaborative practice engaged in the relationships between geography and design. His research investigates spaces of exception as predominant forms of contemporary urbanization. El Hadi holds a Doctorate of Design from Harvard University, a Master of Architecture from Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from La Cambre in Brussels. Prior to joining the University of Michigan, El Hadi was a Lecturer in Architecture at MIT and a Postdoctoral Fellow in Urban Planning and Design at the GSD. He is a founding editor of the journal New Geographies (NG) and editor-in-chief of NG4: Scales of the Earth. Some of his recent work has been published in the Journal of Cultural Geography, MONU and the Journal of Architectural Education.
