You can see Him engaging large groups, the twelve apostles, and the inner circle (Peter, James and John). That wasn’t by chance; it was undoubtedly intentional. The space Jesus created to spend time with His disciples was key to them getting to know Him and one another. Overtime, they grew in their understanding of what it means to love God and each other – despite their differences and flaws. During my conversation with the vestry, I shared my desire to meet with every member of St. Peter’s within the first few months as the interim rector. Jesus gave the disciples the command to “love one another as he had loved them” and that “everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” We must find ways to spend time together if we are going to get to know and love one another as our Lord desires. Since my family does not live in the Loveland area, well need people to host gatherings at their homes. If you are willing to host, please contact Amanda via email or call (970) 292-8595. Once we get a list of hosts, we’ll create a calendar for gatherings. Everyone will receive an invitation to register for one of the times of fellowship sometime in August. We will plant to keep the gatherings smaller (8 – 12 people) to make it possible for those attending to have an opportunity to get to know each other better. If someone cannot participate in one of the scheduled gatherings, I’ll work with you to find a way to spend time together. My hope and prayers are that this will begin to create greater unity and move us toward loving one another as Jesus loves us and called us to love each other. Grace, Peace & Love, The Rev. Jamie George SAINT HELENA FEAST DAY IS AUGUST 18th Serving Our Lord in Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor and Greeley - Colorado Saint Helena (Helen) lived from about AD 240 to AD 327. She is considered the patron saint for difficult marriages and of archeologists, converts, divorced people, and empresses. She was the daughter of an innkeeper, but she married a Roman general, who later became the Emperor Constantius. Her son, Emperor Constantine the Great, was the first Christian emperor of Rome. It was from him that she first learned about Christianity. Saint Helena is known for her generosity in giving money to the poor, using her influence to have prisoners released, and for having warrants those to be exiled canceled. At age 80, she made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem where she discovered the wood of the true Cross on which Christ was crucified. Using slivers from the wood piece she had obtained; she took them to the bedside of a dying woman. The third piece caused a complete recovery, and thus proved that the Cross was indeed the true Cross. Because of this miracle, the symbol for Saint Helena is the Cross. During her search in the Holy Land the rediscovery of the tomb of Christ was made. In 335AD Constantine ordered that a church be built over the site from where the Cross was recovered and over the site of the crucifixion of Christ. This church became known as the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Saint Helena’s feast day is celebrated on August 18th. IT IS ANNUAL PICNIC TIME AUGUST 23rd Serving Our Lord in Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor and Greeley - Colorado The Annual Parish Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, August 23rd, will be St Peter’s Welcome to Fr George and His Family Day! This year’s picnic is one that will be different from any other as it will not be a pot-luck event. This year the church will provide the hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, drinks and dessert ice cream. As all seating will be by family and each family is to provide their own additional food items (salad, fruit, etc.). Doing everything we can to stay within the bounds of the COVID-19 rules, we will follow this mode of operation: 1 – Hamburgers, hotdogs and brats will be prepared on the grill and placed in an individual container for delivery to each family table. 2 – Drinks (water, soda and diet drinks) will be available in individual sealed bottles. 3 – Dessert ice cream will be available in individual sealed containers. (Sorry -No milkshakes!) 4 – Condiments (ketch-up, mustard, relish) will be available in individual sealed containers. 5 – Tables will be placed around the back yard of the church with appropriate distance between each. Tables will be for family group use only. Large tables will be reserved for large families. 6 – Shade will be provided where possible. The church is securing three EZ Up shade covers and is planning to borrow three others. The two larger covers will also be utilized. If you have a family shade cover please plan on bringing it to the picnic. 7 – As expected, all will be required to wear face masks except when eating with their family. This year’s picnic will begin at approximately 11:00AM after the Sunday service on August 23rd. The church service for this Sunday will begin at 9:30 AM instead of 9:00AM. A special picnic flyer will be sent out about a week ahead of the picnic in August. Everyone will need to make a reservation for this picnic. This is important for food purchases and table set-up. Sign-ups will take place on Sundays or can be done by calling Amanda at the church office 970-292-8595 May the rains sweep gentle across your fields, May the sun warm the land, May every good seed you have planted bear fruit, And may late summer find you standing in fields of plenty. BISHOP’S WELL REPORT Serving Our Lord in Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor and Greeley - Colorado Bishop Bill Atwood recently gave a report for the International Diocese project known as “Bishop’s Well”. He reports: First of all, it is not just for water wells (bore holes), but we have done lots of that. It was meant to be “a well of resources to meet desperate needs.” In Kenya, we have done 10 bore holes, averaging $25,000 each, though five of them were actually funded by the Assemblies of God. They wanted to partner with us in a volatile remote region, (which we were glad to do because they gave us the $500,000 drilling rig!). The wells we have done are pretty expensive, because we have to do “cased, deep water bore holes” because of surface water pollution from DDT and other pesticide pollution in the shallow water. We did one that came up dry, but even with good engineering reports, that sometimes happens. We were able to help with another solution to use a trailer to haul water from another site to the place where the bore hole came up dry.
