She is the author of The Monsoon Bride and her research interests include authen- ticity, mixed-race identity, colonial Burma, and the nature of home and belonging. She is working on a long-form narrative about contemporary Yangon and cosmopolitan Rangoon. Michelle holds the 2017 National Library of Australia Creative Arts Fellowship for Australian Writing (sup- ported by the Eva Kollsman and Ray Mathew Trust). Gavin Beccaria is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ). He has taught at USQ for 10 years. He has received a USQ Early Career Teaching Award and he has been part of a research team investigating mental illness prevalence within Indigenous Australian communities. He recently completed two other book chapters on the 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Prior to moving to academia, he was the Director of Psychology in the Toowoomba Health Service. His research interests include evaluating clinical psychol- ogy interventions, problem-solving training and the validation of mental health diagnostic instruments. Sue Bishop is now retired but most of her working life has been devoted to promoting equity in education. This has included teaching Pakistani primary school students in Yorkshire and Greek and Lebanese preschool students in Sydney. At the Australian National University, she assisted Indigenous and mature-age applicants to be admitted to degree programs xi xii NOTES ON CONTRIBUTORS and at USQ she helped African and Middle Eastern students to manage their degrees. She has an abiding passion to assist in making tertiary stud- ies available to all students with the capacity and motivation to succeed at university whatever their background. Anne Boyle completed a PhD in 2015 at St. Patrick’s College, Dublin City University, Ireland on the topic, The Involvement of Traveller par- ents in Traveller preschools in Ireland. She was awarded a scholarship to support this work by the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Education (CECDE) at Dublin City University. Anne was previously awarded an MEd degree for her work on profiling Traveller preschools. She taught in a Traveller preschool for over 20 years, providing early years education to three- to five-year-old Traveller children and providing sup- port for Traveller parents. This stimulated her interest in questions of social justice for members of the Traveller community. Lorelle Burton is Professor of Psychology in the School of Psychology and Counselling and Associate Dean (Students) at USQ, Australia. Lorelle also leads the Community Futures research program in the Institute for Resilient Regions at USQ. Lorelle has received multiple national teaching excellence awards and she has authored multiple psychology textbooks, including a market-leading first-year Australian psychology textbook. She has led national research projects in learning and teaching, has served on national committees and boards, and has been an invited assessor for national awards and grants. Lorelle leads community capacity-building programs that involve working collaboratively with marginalised youth and the aged, examining the challenges that they face and identifying the key factors that contribute to these social issues.
