The New York State Education Department will Hold Borough-Wide Hearings to Receive Comment on the Draft State Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is continuing to seek stakeholder and public input as it develops the State's Plan for implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). To facilitate this, 13 public hearings will be held across the state to gather feedback on the state’s draft ESSA Plan. There will be five public hearings held in New York City; one in each borough from May 15 through June 10. Hearing dates and locations can be found below. In the event that there are more speakers at a hearing than available speaking slots, persons may submit written comments. The public will also be able to submit written comments on the draft State ESSA Plan during a public comment period from May 10 to June 15. NYSED will review all comments as it finalizes New York’s ESSA plan. Following the public hearings, NYSED staff will present any changes to the draft plan based on public comment to the Board of Regents. The finalized State ESSA Plan must be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education by September 18, 2017. More information about ESSA can be found here.
