PETER WHITEHEAD Postal area: BT1 Response ID: ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for Belfast East I agree with the Commission's proposals for this constituency Comments regarding the proposal for Belfast North West I propose the removal of two wards and the addition of four wards compared with the Commission proposals here. I have suggested that the Beechmount ward more naturally belongs in Belfast SW and I would also advocate that Collinbridge should be included with the bulk of the Newtownabbey/Glengormley area in South Antrim, especially as the residential parts of this ward are largely separated from the rest of this seat by the Cave Hill country park. In place of these I note that this seat is already moved to the North of the M2 motorway to include Valley ward and suggest it should include the whole of the 'greater Rathcoole' area, namely the wards of Abbey; O'Neill; Rathcoole; Whitehouse. Most of this area is already included in the Belfast North seat so this achieves minimum change while also creating a more natural, contiguous area. Electorate 74244 See attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-09.0929861146- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for Belfast South West I propose only a very minor change here, namely the addition of the ward of Beechmount. This is mainly to help facilitate changes I want to advocate to the Belfast North seat but it also has merit as it provides a connection between the Ballymurphy and Falls Park wards in West Belfast and the Blackstaff ward in South Belfast which are otherwise not connected by road in the Northern part of the seat Proposed electorate 77140 https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-09.6769807209- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for Dalriada I have argued in relation to the Glenshane seat that there are a number of wards in the vicinity of Coleraine that would fit better in this Dalriada seat. There are equally a number of wards which are proposed to be in this seat which fit better elsewhere, in this case the five wards which are part of the Mid and East Antrim district and which are clearly within the sphere of influence of Ballymena. My proposals for this seat mean that it will be entirely contained within the Causeway Coast & Glens seat and comprises the complete former districts of Ballymoney, Coleraine and Moyle. Relative to the commission plans I advocate the removal of: Cullybackey; Glenravel; Kirkinriola; Maine; Portglenone. and the addition of: Aghadowey; Garvagh; Kilrea; Macosquin. This proposed seat has an electorate of 73064 See attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-09.7263017040- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for East Antrim The changes I propose here are mainly consequent upon changes I am advocating in neighbouring seats, mainly with the objective of tidying up the somewhat shambolic division of Newtownabbey. The details of the changes I suggest are as follows: The removal of the following wards to Belfast North: Abbey; O'Neill; Rathcoole; Whitehouse The removal of the following wards to South Antrim: Carnmoney Hill; Glebe; Glengormley And in compensation of the above, the addition of the following wards from West Antrim: Ballyclare East; Ballyclare West; Ballyduff; Ballynure; Ballyrobert; Doagh; Mossley; Electorate 75146 See attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-09.3577706458- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for Fermanagh & South Tyrone The commission's proposals for Fermanagh & South Tyrone seem to be unnecessarily drastic given that the existing constituency is within quota. I would advocate minimum change here, only adding three wards from the current West Tyrone seat to help enable neighbouring seats to remain within quota (namely: Fintona; Newtownsaville; Trillick) This gives an electorate of 76702 See attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-09.6736627795- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for Foyle I agree with the Commission's proposals for this constituency Comments regarding the proposal for Glenshane The changes I suggest for this seat are largely consequent on those I have made for Fermanagh & South Tyrone and North Tyrone, which maintain the Blackwater as the eastern boundary of the former seat and necessitate the removal of Cookstown from the latter. These changes do I believe have merits on their own terms rather than purely enabling changes to other seats. In particular it seems to me those parts of the proposed seat which fall within the former Coleraine district do not fit in well with this seat, particularly the northern wards which are clearly within the orbit of Coleraine town. Relative to the commission's proposals I advocate the following changes: To add the following wards of Mid Ulster: Ardboe; Coagh; Cookstown East; Cookstown South; Cookstown West To remove the following wards of Causeway Coast & Glens: Aghadowey; Garvagh; Kilrea; Macosquin This proposed seat has an electorate of 75975 See attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-09.8288616446- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for Newry & Armagh I propose some minor changes to this constituency (relative both to the existing constituency boundaries and to those proposed) whose purpose is to help keep my proposed Upper Bann seat within quota. Relative to the Commission's proposals, I suggest that this seat should keep Blackwatertown (which clearly has much better links to the city of Armagh than to the Craigavon area) but lose the wards of Mahon and Richhill to Upper Bann. Electorate 71947 see attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-10.2338606841- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for North Down I agree with the Commission's proposals for this constituency Comments regarding the proposal for North Tyrone The proposals seem to involve an unnecessary amount of change to the existing boundary with Fermanagh & South Tyrone, losing parts of the Derry & Strabane district currently within the seat (taking West Tyrone to be the base seat) and taking the Mullaghmore ward which splits the town of Dungannon down the middle. I would propose that, relative to West Tyrone, this seat should lose three wards in the South of the former Omagh district (Fintona; Newtownsaville; Trillick) and gain the following wards from the Mid Ulster district (all which are in the current Mid Ulster parliamentary constituency): Coalisland North; Coalisland South; Donaghmore; Loughry; Oaklands; Pomeroy; Stewartstown; Washing Bay. This gives an electorate of 76415 Please see attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-10.8043478683- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for South Antrim The major change I advocate here is the removal of Antrim town to West Antrim and to reunite the greater part of the Newtownabbey/Glengormley area in one seat. This creates a compact seat around the Western side of Belfast which contains two main population centres in Lisburn and Newtownabbey. I suggest that this seat should gain the following wards compared with the commission proposals: From West Antrim: Ballyhenry; Burnthill; Carnmoney; Fairview From East Antrim: Carnmoney Hill; Glebe; Glengormley From Belfast North: Collinbridge To make room for the above this seat should lose to West Antrim the six wards covering Antrim Town and also two wards West of Lisburn (Ballinderry and Maghaberry) to West Down to help keep that seat in quota. Electorate 70112 See attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-10.1398997300- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for South Down I advocate some minor changes to this seat which are mainly consequent upon changes I am suggesting for neighbouring seats. I propose that the following wards be gained from Strangford, namely: Ballynahinch; Crosgar & Killyleagh I propose that the following wards be removed to West Down, namely: Ballyward; Loughbrickland; Rathfriland Electorate 69719 See attached image https://consultations.nidirect.gov.uk/boundary-commission- ni/4815919c/consultation/download_file?squid=question.2016-08-10.6725077896- filesubquestion&user=ANON-FFDS-VSTG-7 Comments regarding the proposal for Strangford My suggestions for this constituency have as their objective the reunification of the communities of Carryduff and Newtownbreda which have been quite unnecessarily and avoidably split between this constituency and the proposed West Down. I therefore advocate adding from West Down the wards of Beechill; Carryduff West; Knockbracken; Newtownbreda. To make room for these additions and to keep the other seats within quota I suggest
