REETA CHAKRABARTI Education respondent for BBC News Reeta Chakrabarti is a political correspondent for the BBC, she has worked across a full range of news programmes on the BBC, in both television and radio. Reeta is an adept and engaging awards host and conference facilitator. Reeta graduated from Oxford University with a degree in English and French and has since had a long and successful career with the BBC. She began working for the BBC in the early 1990’s and became a political correspondent based at Westminster in 1999. Before her career as a political correspondent Reeta spent several years as a radio producer and reporter on BBC Radio 4 and 5 Live, then she moved on to television. Reeta has also spent time as the BBC’s Community Affairs correspondent, and has Topics done stints covering home affairs, and health and education. Facilitators Some of the stories she has covered at Westminster include two general elections; three changes of Tory leader; travelling on the Lib Dem battle bus following the then leader Charles Kennedy on the campaign trail in 2005; and more recently reporting on the twists and turns of the cash for honours affair. She’s also covered some challenging stories including the Stephen Lawrence inquiry; the Damilola Taylor murder trial, as well as assignments in France, Germany and India. Reeta is patronage of the Naz Project, an HIV/AIDS charity focusing on minority groups affected by the disease, and of the National Mentoring Consortium, linking ethnic minority undergraduates with employers in the public and private sectors.
