I am hopeful that you are as excited as Courtney and I are to be a part of this year’s Auction. The Auction has taken on many forms over its long history at Moravian, now celebrating its 36th year and in sum raising more than $3.7 million. Please take the opportunity this evening to celebrate our wonderful and generous community. New friendships will be cultivated and old friendships renewed through this important Moravian event. These benefits are a byproduct of our common goal: to raise funds that ensure our intellectually curious students continue to thrive in the classrooms, on the athletic fields, and on the stage. This event is also an opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional volunteerism that we see day in and day out at Moravian. On behalf of the Moravian Academy community, especially our students and faculty, I want to thank Auction Chair, Charlie Trapasso, and our Co-Chairs, Amy Bucher, Tania Marsh, and Christine Mira, as well as the Auction Committee for their vision, creativity, and hard work. This year’s event will be another wonder-filled night that we will remember with a smile for years to come. Thank you again for your attendance, your donations as sponsors, your auction items and ads, and of course your participation as a bidder in the silent and live auctions. A school such as Moravian Academy is stronger because of its supporters. Have a wonderful evening and bid often! Sincerely, Jeffrey Zemsky Headmaster 16 17 Dear Parents and Guests, “How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice to the Cat. “You must be, or you wouldn’t have come here.” On April 21, 2018 a crowd of “mad” individuals will flock to the Athletic & Wellness Center and step Through the Looking Glass and into an unforgettable storybook adventure. I am extremely honored and grateful to have been this year’s Auction Chair and work alongside so many gifted and dedicated parent volunteers. Collaborative, dynamic, insightful, organized and independent are a few ways to describe my Auction Executive Committee and parent volunteers. Co-Chair Amy Bucher’s creative flair for marketing and her visionary assistance, plans to dazzle us with a spectacular 50 ft. surprise on April 21st! The decor for the evening will be a true testament to the theme of the Auction. Co-Chairs Tania Marsh and Christine Mira’s eye for detail will surpass all expectation. Guests will travel “down the rabbit hole” to a magical space featuring eclectic vignettes, a beer and wine garden, and animated table settings. Evident around every corner will be imagination, creativity, elegance and fun. Our beloved Director of the Physical Plant, Tom Bayliss and his team will bring to life Tania’s and Christine’s imaginative designs. As he heads for a well-deserved retirement after 25 years at Moravian, Tom will be dearly missed. Moravian parent Chef Michael Brack’s impressive and delectable Queen of Hearts buffet will offer a feast that even Alice would enjoy. Senior Alex Ahmed’s impactful and thought-provoking video supporting Fund-A-Need’s request is sure to advance the goal to purchase updated equipment and to reconfigure space so that students can truly explore the wonder of digital storytelling. A new twist to the Sweepstakes prize offers a customized men’s suit by Peg Albert or women’s 5-piece travel ensemble by Karen Hickey. Curious about the Auction items? There will be a variety of interesting and unique items from a simple and lovely bottle of wine from Black River Farms or Tolino Vineyards to something as exotic as the use of the Weiler Corporation Citation IV jet as transportation for six. My Co-chairs and the Auction Executive Committee are especially grateful for the continuing support of the Office of Institutional Advancement, Administration, Board of Trustees, sponsors, advertisers, auction item donors and Moravian families and friends. If Alice had a word to describe the “mad” folks who helped create this wonderful event, she would call them “bonkers,” to which the Mad-hatter would reply, “…all the best people are.” And so, let’s make a toast, bid online, raise a paddle and support Curiosity and Innovative Thinking together on April 21st and join Moravian Academy in its quest to shape the student experience around curiosity and deeply intellectual, personal and lifelong growth opportunities. Charlie Lynn Trapasso 2018 Chairperson Dante Trapasso, Class of 2018 and rising Villanova freshman 16 17 Our Hats Are Off To So Many… Blue Chip Sound, Christmas City Printing, and Green Pond Nursery for donating goods and services to make the Auction a success! Thank you for the amazing support we receive from the administration, faculty and staff of the Academy including: The Headmaster’s Office, The Business Office, Susan Parent, John Donecker, Dylan Deal and the Maintenance Department A very special and heartfelt thank you to Tom Bayliss, our Director of the Physical Plant who retired on March 16, 2018: for his tireless efforts in helping us plan the Auction, for his endless creativity and knowledge of how to make our ideas (and his) come to life, and for his constant “can do” attitude. Most of all, we’ll miss the many hours of laughter and exchanging of ideas that has happened for so many years. As we look around this year, and for many years to come, we’ll constantly be reminded of the positive impact Tom has had on this school event.
