Pile Installation 2. Scour development 3. Installation Scour Protection Challenges during Execution Supply chain - OSS contractors insolvency (1/2) • Situation: • EPC-I contractor for OSS filed for insolvency in September 2016. • Design & construction of steel works on the OSS topside were only finished ~50% • wpd team evaluated pros & cons of several potential solutions to secure the necessary commitment by all stakeholders and to commission the wind. • A scenario analysis has been shared with investors, lenders and the Lenders Technical Advisor (LTA). The LTA required a regular Probabilistic Quantitative Cost Risk Assessment (QRA) based on a Monte Carlo Simulation. • All stakeholders agreed to proceed with construction of the OSS under the responsibility of wpd. Challenges during Execution Supply chain - OSS contractors insolvency (2/2) • Topside was installed on 2017/09/21, exactly within the time schedule which was setup in 11/2016. • Grid connection was established and first feed-in achieved only six weeks after installation. • 18th and last turbine was connected to the grid on 17th of December 2017. Nordergründe – challenges of a North Sea nearshore wind farm Conclusion and lessons learned: • Don’t think nearshore is the “easy” offshore • Think BIG! • Have experienced partners And finally get started….
