Previous meetings • The clubs met for the first time in UEFA competition on 20 October, Alessane Pléa scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win for the visitors. It was Nice's first brush with Austrian opposition. • Nice's 1-0 success was their first genuine away victory in UEFA competition; the only previous match they had won away from Nice was a 5-1 triumph over Fenerbahçe in a European Cup first-round replay – staged on neutral territory in Geneva – in December 1959. • In their only past encounters with French sides, Salzburg lost 3-1 away and won 2-0 at home against Paris Saint- Germain in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League group stage. • Gabala and Salzburg are the only teams who have lost all three of their group games this season. Form guide • Nice's last four European home fixtures have produced just four goals – a home win, an away win and two draws. • Salzburg are without a victory in five European matches – a 1-1 draw followed by four straight defeats. • This is Nice's first UEFA group stage campaign. • Salzburg have successfully negotiated four of their preceding five UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns. Links and trivia • The journey from Salzburg to Nice is around 650km. • Nice were the most-fouled side in the first three matchdays with 55 infringements against them. • Salzburg boast French talent in defender Dayot Upamecano, the 17-year-old having joined from Valenciennes in summer 2015 after winning the UEFA European Under-17 Championship with France. • Prior to this term, Mario Balotelli had scored five goals in 11 UEFA Europa League outings, for Manchester City and Liverpool. • Balotelli and on-loan Salzburg defender André Wisdom were team-mates at Anfield from 2014–15, though the latter was out on loan that season. • Jonatan Soriano is Salzburg's all-time top scorer in UEFA competition, taking his total to 25 with a strike on matchday two. • Former team-mates: Wanderson (Salzburg) & Julien Vercauteren (Nice) – Lierse, 2013–14 The coaches • Lucien Favre was appointed Nice coach this summer. Twice a championship winner with Zürich in his native Switzerland, he made a positive impression in Germany with Hertha Berlin and Mönchengladbach. He was capped 24 times as a midfielder. • This game is taking place the day after Favre's 59th birthday. • A midfielder – and later youth coach – at Barcelona, Salzburg's Spanish boss Óscar García has managed abroad with Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Brighton & Hove Albion and Watford. He guided Salzburg to the Austrian title in his first campaign in charge, 2015/16. 3 OGC Nice - FC Salzburg Thursday 3 November 2016 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Stade de Nice, Nice Team facts OGC Nice Formed: 1904 Nickname: Les Aiglons (The Eaglets) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • None Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 4 (1959) French Cup: 3 (1997) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2015/16: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2013/14: play-offs 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2006/07: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 4-0: Nice v Fenerbahçe 24/10/1973, UEFA Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 5-1: Nice v Fenerbahçe 23/12/1959, European Champion Clubs' Cup first round replay (played on neutral territory in Geneva) • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Nice v Salzburg 03/11/16, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 4-0: Köln v Nice 12/12/73, UEFA Cup third round first leg UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 4-0: Nice v Fenerbahçe (see above) • Biggest away win 0-1: Salzburg v Nice 20/10/16, group stage • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Nice v Salzburg (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 4-0: Köln v Nice (see above) FC Salzburg Formed: 1933 UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Cup: (1994) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 10 (2016) Austrian Cup: 4 (2016) Ten-year record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 4 OGC Nice - FC Salzburg Thursday 3 November 2016 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Stade de Nice, Nice 2015/16: play-offs (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2014/15: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2013/14: round of 16 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2012/13: UEFA Champions League second qualifying round 2011/12: round of 32 2010/11: group stage (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2009/10: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2008/09: first round 2007/08: first round (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2006/07: first round (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 7-0: Salzburg v Banants 17/07/08, UEFA Cup first qualifying round first leg • Biggest away win 2-6: Nistru Otaci v Salzburg 01/07/00, UEFA Intertoto Cup second round first leg 1-5: Dinamo Zagreb v Salzburg 06/11/14, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: Salzburg v Metalist Kharkiv 16/02/12, UEFA Europa League round of 32 first leg 0-4: Salzburg v Parma 06/11/03, UEFA Cup second round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Parma v Salzburg 27/11/03, UEFA Cup second round second leg 5-0: Fortuna Düsseldorf v Salzburg 17/09/80, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round first leg UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 7-0: Salzburg v Banants (see above) • Biggest away win 1-5: Dinamo Zagreb v Salzburg (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: Salzburg v Metalist Kharkiv (see above) 0-4: Salzburg v Parma (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Parma v Salzburg (see above) 5 OGC Nice - FC Salzburg Thursday 3 November 2016 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Stade de Nice, Nice Squad list OGC Nice Current season All-time UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat.
