While at Plattsburgh, he was a four-year defender for the Cardinals. He later earned a Master’s Degree from SUNY Brockport majoring in Athletic Administration. He has also earned his national coaching license from the National Soccer Coaching Association of America. In Vermont, Friske guided the Olympic Development Program as President. Coach Friske previously coached men’s soccer at Keuka College and Norwich University. He guided Norwich to an undefeated regular season and 3 NCAA Tournament appearances. The 2007 Oswego Laker season marks the 12th year for Friske as a collegiate varsity head soccer coach. With a career record of 126-89-7, he has directed his teams to eight straight conference tournament appearances, six conference tournament championship appearances, and five conference titles. 6 2007 Laker Soccer Media Guide Jeff Baum Assistant Coach, 1st year • Oswego, New York Coach Jeff Baum has been coaching soccer since the early 1980’s. He is the former founder and director of Mexico Youth Soccer in Mexico, NY. His high school coaching career consists of coaching various varsity boys and girls teams. His girls’ teams include the former Bishop Cunningham High School and Mexico High School. He also spent many years as the Boys Varsity coach at Mexico High School. Currently, he coaches a local boy’s team and is on the Oswego Youth Soccer board. A graduate of Oswego State in 1983, he holds a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Athletic Coaching. He earned a Masters of Science in 1987 from Oswego. Jeff currently holds a USSF class “D” license. He resides in Oswego with his wife, Terry and 2 children. Pat Hurley Assistant Coach, 1st year • Center Moriches, New York Pat comes to Oswego with a lot of college experience. Pat played his high school soccer at Center Moriches High School in New York. While there, he was a 2 time All League Conference player and was named All-County his senior year. Pat spent 2 years at Southern Connecticut State University. His team appeared in the NCAA those years. Pat came to Oswego State as a player in his junior year where he was a 2 year starter and captain. He led Oswego to 2 conference tournament appearances. Pat was named to the All Conference Team as well as All Tournament Team. Currently, Pat is a Technology Education major. Byron McMichael Assistant Goalkeeper Coach, 1st year • Kinderhook, New York Byron is a former goalkeeper at Oswego State. Previously, at Icabod Crane High School, Byron was named to the 1st team Patroon All Conference, Section 2 All League 1st Team, Class A Goalkeeper of the Year and 3rd team All State. Currently, Byron is a Meteorology and Mathematics major. 2007 Laker Soccer Media Guide 7 Greg Blette Sophomore Midfielder/Forward Lake View, New York 6 Career Highlights Greg played in all 21 games and started an impressive 17. As a freshman he had 3 goals, one of which was an impressive game winner against SUNY Morrisville. Before Oswego Greg was a 4 year player and 3 year starter at Frontier High School. During his last two years he was named captain. In his junior year, Greg was named to the ECIC 2nd Team. Greg’s senior year was equally as successful as he was named to the ECIC 1st Team and earned the Daryl J. Krentz Award for Outstanding Senior Soccer Player. Greg played travel soccer with the Hamburg Soccer Club and Buffalo United Premier. Coaches Comments “Greg is a strong central player who can move the ball around all over the field. He is able to score goals and is a very good defender. He is dangerous both offensively and defensively in the air. He has played in 22 games in his 2 years as an Oswego State Laker. Before Oswego Jeff played his high school soccer at nearby Cicero- North Syracuse High School. During 2005 and 2006, Jeff was part of the Open Men’s Empire State Games.
