Cynthia Alm is an attorney, mediator and facilitator. She is a transactional attorney with experience in commercial real estate sales and leasing, including transactions between US and foreign buyers and sellers. She also mediates business and real estate disputes, and facilitates strategic planning meetings and board retreats. Ms. Alm is a past co-chair of the Commercial Section’s Advisory Council, and is a past president of the Hawaii Chapter of ACR. Ms. Alm has over 25 years of experience in Hawaii real estate. She was in-house counsel to Okazaki Realty Company in commercial real estate transactions and residential property management. She also served on the faculty of the University of Hawaii, Shidler College of Business as an Assistant Professor in real estate law, and was an Information Officer for the Hawaii Real Estate Commission where she was responsible for providing information to the public on condominium governance and real estate licensing Since 2000, she has been in solo practice, concentrating in real estate conveyancing, mediation and facilitation. Ms. Alm served on the State of Hawaii Medical Claims Conciliation Panels, and was an on-line mediator for Square Trade. She is also a volunteer mediator for the Mediation Center of the Pacific (specialized training in condominium mediation) and the Honolulu Board of Realtors. Ms. Alm received her basic and advanced mediation and facilitation training from the Mediation Center of the Pacific. She also completed Advanced Mediation training offered by the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution (2009), ACR Commercial Section’s Advanced Commercial Mediation Institute (2009, 2006), and Square Trade’s on-line mediation training (2002). She has been a guest speaker for graduate and law school ADR classes and has assisted in training and evaluating apprentice mediators. In 2010, Ms. Alm was awarded ACR’s Diversity and Equity Committee Award. She was Mediator of the Year for the Mediation Center of the Pacific in 2000, and received its Conch Shell Award in 2003 for promoting mediation and dispute resolution in Hawaii. She is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Highest Honors in Real Estate. She received her law degree from Catholic University of America, in Washington, D. C. Ms. Alm is a director and vice president of the Mediation Center of the Pacific, a director and secretary of the Shidler College of Business Alumni Association, a trustee of the Pacific Buddhist Academy (private, college preparatory high school in Honolulu with a signature peace education program), and a director of the Hawaii Society of Business Professionals. She is a past commissioner of the Hawaii State Ethics Commission. Ms. Alm is a member of the American Bar Association, Hawaii State Bar Association, Hawaii Women Lawyers, and the Honolulu Board of Realtors. She is a licensed Hawaii attorney and a licensed Hawaii real estate broker. She enjoys traveling and hearing about other people’s travels to exotic places. She is married to Robert (Robbie) Alm.
