INDUSTRIAL AND PROVIDENT SOCIETIES Legislation The principal legislation relating to Industrial and Provident Scieties (most of which are Co-Operative Societies) are the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts, 1893 to 1978. Three societies were restored to the register in 2008. Thirty-one societies were cancelled during the year. This shows an increase of three in the number of societies on the register during the period under review. Amalgamations There were five amalgamations in 2008: Keelogues Group Water Scheme Limited (Reg No: 3627R) amalgamated with Straide Group Water Scheme Co-Operative Society Limited (Reg No: 5166R) on 09-01-2008 and formed a new society called PBKS Group Water Scheme Co-Operative Society Limited (Reg No: 5471R). Peterswell Group Water Scheme Society Limited (Reg No: 5088R) amalgamated with Cloghaun/Castlebay Group Water Scheme Society Limited (Reg No: 5018R) on 08- 02-2008 and formed a new society called Peterswell/Castledaly Group Water Scheme Co-Operative Society Limited (Reg No: 5475R). FRS Network Amalgamated Co-operative Societies Limited (5444R) amalgamated with Mid and West Cork Farm Relief Services (5017 R) 02-09-2008. The registry of Mid and West Cork Farm Relief Services was cancelled on the same date.
