CSU CHI CO JUNE 5 - JULY 3, 2020 L O N D O N S U MME R 2 0 2 0 History & HumaNities, LoNdoN & York This LoNdoN Program allows studeNts to experieNce visual aNd theatrical art iN persoN. Two Chico State faculty, Dr. Laura Nice (DepartmeNt of Comparative ReligioN aNd HumaNities) aNd Dr. JasoN Nice (DepartmeNt of History) are specialists iN ENglish art, literature aNd history, aNd will briNg studeNts to major sites ceNtral to BritaiN’s loNg aNd storied history. The program will be based iN LoNdoN, where studeNts will see works of art at the Tate ModerN, British Museum aNd the NatioNal Gallery. The group will study the architecture of WestmiNster Abbey, see a play at the Globe Theatre, aNd dig for artifacts oN the baNks of the Thames River. ExcursioNs will iNclude York to see the majestic Gothic York MiNster aNd Rievaulx Abbey, aNd storied StoNeheNge, to experieNce the history aNd moNumeNts that remaiN. YOUR PROGRAM INCLUDES Tickets to a performance at a West End theater, and Shakespeare's London: Globe Theater. Student housing in a centrally-located, fully-furnished apartment in Full-day excursions to Hampton Court Palace, and Salisbury and London. Stonehenge. Oyster Card for travel on the London buses and underground trains in York: zones 1 & 2. Student housing in a centrally-located hotel in York, with daily breakfast. Orientation program in London with AIFS staff, information on safety Ghost of York-themed tour. and security, and a local area walking tour. Visits to various York attractions such as the Richard III Museum; Visits to various London attractions such as the Tate Britain, National Clifford's Tower; St. Mary's Abbey and Holy Trinity Church; York Minster Gallery and Tate Modern art galleries; Imperial War Museum and British and the Minster Tower. Museum; the Tower of London; Old Operating Theatre; Freud Museum; Guided tour of the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall. Churchill War Rooms and Westminster Abbey. Full-day excursions to Hemsley, North Yorkshire; Castle Howard, York; Guided tour of Middle Temple Hall, followed by a three-course group Whitby, North Yorkshire. lunch. Guided visit to St. Paul's Cathedral. Also: Inbound (public) transfer between Heathrow Airport and the student housing in London on the standard arrival date. Train transfer between London and York, and York to London Heathrow Airport. One-night hotel stay at London Heathrow Airport. International Student Identity Card. Access to the AIFS Student Center in London, and a team of experienced AIFS Student Services staff for information, personal advising/counseling and 24-hour emergency contact service. Medical and program fee refund insurance policies. FEES Based on an enrollment of 8-11 participants, the fee per person is $5,645. This fee excludes round-trip airfare, optional cell phone purchase, CSU Chico tuition/fees, passport and visa fees if applicable. ACADEMIC CREDIT This Faculty-Led program offers six units of academic credit: HUMN 300: Great Books and Ideas: Arts/Humanities HIST 313: Early Modern Europe Registration through CSU, Chico for both courses is required.
