A big thank you goes out to the students’ English teachers and parents/guardians who worked tirelessly and dili- gently in preparing their children. The three finalists were given the opportunity to represent Royal Vale at the Regional Scripps Spelling Bee Tournament in Ottawa. Devon Packer placed third in the Regional Competition, Griffin placed seventh and Gabriel made it passed the first few rounds. It was a wonderful experience for all, including the parents/ guardians. Congratulations to the three students. They made Royal 2017 RVS Spelling Bee Finalist Vale proud! Inspiring minds, building futures ~ Cultiver l’esprit, bâtir l’avenir Extreme Chair Makeover! KidKnits Service Project Royal Vale's Grade 2 and Grade 6 students are learning to knit using KidKnits fair trade craft kits. The yarn is hand-spun from women living and working in poverty in developing countries. The KidKnits program offers our students simple craft kit that is integrated with a comprehensive service-learning curriculum. Knock, Knock; Give a Sock! A Stitch in Time! Royal Vale School grade 2 students recently helped the Knock, Knock; Give a Sock organization collect for those in need. The stu- dents prepared bags with warm socks and heartfelt words of encour- agement to homeless people in Montreal. The RVS families also helped make this campaign a success and a special thank you goes out to Leah, Lex and Olam for spearheading the initiative. RVS Math/Science Olympics The elementary and secondary students are gearing up to demonstrate their Math and Science skills this month. They will work on their science projects and showcase them through vari- ous exhibitions. The event promises to be exciting and fun for all. We wish them all good luck with their experiments, pro- jects and challenges. Knock, Knock! Give a Sock! Healthy Living Embracing the EMSB’s nutrition month campaign spearheaded by nutritionists such as Ms. Emily Hamilton-Levitt, our elemen- tary cycle 3 RVS students have created their own personal food guides based on the foods from the four different food groups that they enjoy eating. The students are participating in the board’s nutrition challenges with much enthusiasm. They have pledged to eat a healthy breakfast and to eat more fruits and Warmer Weather We kindly ask that all students have two pairs of shoes in school now that the rainy season is upon us. Whenever students head out to the schoolyard it is imperative that they wear their out- door shoes to avoid bringing mud into the building. A clean floor also means a safe floor. The staff that run the clubs are asking for some assistance from our RVS Families. Please email her at: [email protected] Adriana Di Arcangelo & Mr. Meades CEMC Computer Science for Young Women RVS is proud to announce the Adriana Di Arcangelo was selected and invited to the CEMC Workshop in Computer Science for Young Women on May 20th at the University of Waterloo in Ontario. The CEMC encourages young women who are considering to pursue their passion in computer science as a career for the first time. It is a unique opportunity designed to ignite enthusiasm for computer science in interested female students from across Canada who have had little or no previous exposure to computer science. The young women invited learn that computer science is about much more than using and programming computers.
