Anil Meshram Reviews Progress of SBGF Projects in Vellore

» TODAY'S PAPER » TAMIL NADU Vellore, June 3, 2016 Anil Meshram reviews progress of SBGF projects in Vellore Staff Reporter State Planning Commission Member­Secretary emphasises on documentation Anil Meshram, Member Secretary, State Planning Commission, visited Vellore district on Wednesday and reviewed progress of works being implemented under the State Balanced Growth Fund (SBGF). Collector R. Nanthagopal informed that a total of Rs. 6.77 crore has been sanctioned for implementation of 20 projects in the backward blocks viz., Kandili, Alangayam and Timiri blocks. The needs to implement new projects for addressing the backwardness of those blocks were also stressed. Leela Subramaniam, president, District Panchyat, requested the officials to formulate projects that will address issues relating to health, education and poverty apart from industrial backwardness in those blocks. Mr. Meshram reviewed the progress of the sanctioned projects and quantification of benefits. He emphasised on proper documentation. He also reviewed the details on increase in water table and water quality in the places where artificial recharge structures were set up with an aim to rejuvenate well irrigation; increase in income levels due to the implementation of livelihood enhancement projects. K.R. Jahanmohan, Head of Agriculture Policy and Planning Division, State Planning Commission, suggested emulating the suitable and successful schemes implemented under SBGF in other districts. Earlier, Mr. Meshram inspected the water harvesting structures created under SBGF at Vanakkambadi panchayat, Timiri block. Palmyrah plantation was done along the bunds to provide strength and Vettiver planting was also resorted to check soil erosion. After interacting with beneficiaries of goat distribution scheme in Chenna Samuthiram village Mr. Meshram asked officials to provide the variety of goats that withstand the local climatic conditions. He reviewed increase in water table and quality where artificial recharge structures were set up.
