They have kng history since ancient times. The earliest mention of their name occurs in the Ramayana and the Maha bharata. Bhils possibly belong 10 a proto Mediterranean race who spread far and wide when a climatic crisis occurred in the gral>s steppes 0 f the Sahara. And, even now they are mostly, dependent on agriculture and specially agriculture labour. Modernisation of life style of such tribal groups. while preserving the good aspects of the age-old culture, is one of the object of the planning schemes. s Y) 645 CENSUS OF INDIA 1981 SERIES 12-MAHARASHTRA DHULE DISTRICT CENSUS HANDBOOK ERRATA Page Item Col. The DCH is constantly referred to by planners, administrators, acad~micians and researchers. It is inter alia used for delimitation of constituencies, formulating local level and region'll plans and as an aid to District administration The district census handbook is the only publication which provides Primary Census Abstract (PCA) data up to village level for rural areas and [wardwise for each city or town.
