Success Story: Shelter for Urban Homeless (SUH), Sarbodaya Nagar, Puri, Odisha, India DAY NULM, Puri Municipality, Puri Life is not a pre written script; we never know what is going to happen in the next turn of it. Sometime it gives us an opportunity to bounce back and withstand with the crisis and sometime makes us helpless. The present story is about Smt. Basanti Samantaray of Nimapada, who left her house on 7th of March 2017 and with the help of a local youth reached at the “Shelter for Urban Homeless”, Sarbodaya Nagar. She was taken care of her health, counselled well by the members of SUH and finally she was handed over to her family.…………… Smt. Basanti Samantaray, wife of Akhaya Samantaray, aged about 35 years old woman living with her family in Renghalo village of Nimapada block, under Puri District, Odisha, India. She has two children a boy and a girl, due to some family problem; she left her house on 7th of March 2017 and reached puri on the same day. She was rescued by a local boy of Gajapati Nagar and handed over at SUH. After receiving Basanti, the representative of OPUS has informed the TALABANIA Police station and did the legal procedure. The next day, the police has investigated the matter and simultaneously informed the Nimapada Police station to get into the reality. Medical Check Up: As she had pain on her left hand and head, she has been given first aid at SUH and then taken to District Head quarter Hospital, Puri. She was administered some medicines and returned back to SUH. Handing over to relative: After getting the information from Nimapada Police Station, Sri Abhaya Samantaray, the brother in law (younger brother of her husband) of Basanti and who is also residing in Puri city came to SUH on 8th March 2017 for taking back Basanti. Then the representative of OPUS discussed with the OIC Talabania police station and after completing the formalities they handed over Basanti to her brother in Law. This may sound normal in general perspective, but just imagine “if there would have no SUH or such facilities available for the helpless and homeless individuals like Basanti in the city? Then the story would have been sounds differently. “If there would have no service provider or dedicated human resources available to support the helpless and homeless people like Basanti in the city? Basanti and her brother in law thanked Puri Municipality and OPUS for taking good care of her during her short stay and making it possible to reunion with her family again after two days. .
