NO.43 Garugubilli (V), Merakamudidam ( M) Vizianagaram (DT), Andhra Pradesh . Submitted by SV ENVIRO LABS & CONSULTANTS BLOCK -B, B-1, IDA, AUTONAGAR -12 VISAKHAPATNAM, ANDHRA PRADESH QCI -145 INTRODUCTION: Mining is the extraction of minerals or other geological materials from the earth through suitable method (open cast or underground) from an ore body, lode, vien, seam, reef or placer deposits. These deposits are mined normally when the extraction of the mineral is economically viable or due to economic interest. Mineral area classified as two groups i.e., Major and Minor Minerals. In a developmental activity like Quartz mining, all the exercises must co-exist satisfactorily with its surrounding condition so as to minimize the adverse impact on the environment. To control the likely adverse impacts and to achieve this goal, it is necessary to prepare an Environmental Management Plan, which has to be implemented by the proponents, in order to achieve environmental protection along with production profits. Sri C.V. Subhash Patnaik has filed an application for quarry lease for Quartz & Quartzite Mines over an extent of 14.16ha, in Sy.No.43 Garugubilli Village, Merakamudidam Mandal, Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh The Director of Mines & Geology, Hyderabad has decided to grant a quarry lease in favor of M/s. Gandikota Enterprises for a period of 20 years subject to submission of Approved Mining Plan within a period of 6 months from the date of issue of notice No.7166/E3/12, dt: 29.02.2012 as per Rule 12 (5) (C) of Andhra Pradesh Minor Mineral Rules, 1966. Mining plan was approved by Department of Mines & Geology vide letter no. 3303/MP- VZM/2015 dated 01.03.2016. Sri C.V. Subhash Patnaik granted quarry lease for mining of Quartz & Quartzite over an extent of 14.16 ha. In Sy.No.43 Garugubilli Village, Merakamudidam Mandal, Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh Sri C.V. Subhash Patnaik is Proprietor of the company and has significant experience in the Quartz Industry. Cluster Formation: As per EIA notification dt. 14 th Sep, 2006 & its amendments EMP has to submitted to get Environmental Clearance as B 2 project. As per MoEF & CC notification S.O. 141(E) dt. 15 th January, 2016 “ A cluster shall be formed when the distance between the peripheries of one lease is less than 500 m from the periphery of other lease in a homogeneous mineral area ” and the proposed mine is having 01 no of Quartz & Quartzite mine beside the proposed mine covering at Puthikavalasa village, Merakamudiddam Mandal, Vizianagaram District. As per S.O.2269 (E) dt. 1 st july, 2016 “(6) A cluster shall be formed when the distance between the peripheries of one lease is lessthan 500 meters from the periphery of other lease in a homogeneous mineral area which shallbe applicable to the mine leases or quarry licenses granted on and after 9th September,2013”. “As per Letter No. 3593/M/2007, Dt. 24-08-2016 by ADM&G, Vizianagaram, there is one mine lease Smt Ch. Jayasri of an extent 12.14Ha within 500 mts radius”. LOCATION OF THE MINE: The above said quarry lease falls in Topo sheet No. 65 N/11. The lease area is situated at a distance of 0.42 km of Siridevipuram Village. The proposed area is located to the side of the road leading to Putikavalasa from the main road (Vizianagaram –Garividi). GEOLOGY AND RESERVES: REGIONAL GEOLOGY: The rock units, exposed in this region of the subject area belong to Rocks of the Archaeans group. They comprise gneisses, amphibolites with enclaves of older metamorphic and with emplacements of muscovite, pegmatite’s and quartz veins. The Archaean schist and gnesis show foliation varying from NE-SW TO NW-SE with moderate to steep dips on either side. The general disposition of the plutonic bodies is concordant with the adjacent quartz- feldspathic mica schist. The rocks of the Vizinagaram Supergroup show north and south plunging eastern contact of this Supergroup with the schists showsen-echelon thrusts, sub-parallel or oblique to the basin margin, with moderate to steep dips towards east. LOCAL GEOLOGY: The area around the lease properly in a low undulating terrain with a gentle slope towards the east and south .As seen in the toposheet of the area, the general elevation in only of the order of about 227m MSL. No high peaks are seen and thus it is concluded that the area was subjected to intense denudation and has - been peneplained. RESERVES : The Quartz reserves are calculated by cross sectional method under proved (UNFC: 111), probable (UNFC: 122) and inferred (UNFC: 333) categories. The Quartz is well exposed to a maximum thickness of 3m or to an average thickness of 2.5m along the strike direction. So the estimation reserves of Quartz is taken an average thickness of 10m from the surface is considered for proved category. Since the Quartz is extending further depth below proved zone, another 3m thickness is considered for each category of probable & inferred reserves. The reserves are estimated by multiplying the cross sectional area with influence distance of section, tonnage factor of Quartz (2.6) and recovery factor. The recovery factor of Quartz is taken as 90% by leaving 10% of the material for weathered or for waste. The calculations of Quartz reserves are given below. Total saleable Reserves of Quartz = 189945 tonnes. Annual anticipated production = 100080 m3 YEAR WISE PRODUCTION DETAILS: Table: Year Wise Production for C.V Subash Patnaik Mineral Total ROMM3 ROM/ Year Pit No Tentative Top Soil 08/SB/IB 3 Reject in 3 3 Ore M Mineral in Waste Excavatio M M tones@ tones @90% Ratio n M 3 10% I 1 29000 -- -- 29000 65250 7240 9:1 II 1 44480 -- -- 44480 100080 11120 9:1 Ill 1 44480 -- -- 44480 100080 11120 9:1 IV 1 44480 -- - 44480 100080 11120 9:1 v 1 44480 -- -- 44480 100080 11120 9:1 Table: Year Wise Production for Smt. Methods of working: Open cast mining will be done to raise quartz from this thin vein deposit .The quartz vein occurs in the form of a small mound rising to a height of only about 28m form the ground level. It is proposed to manually open cast mine, the vein by cutting bench of 3m heights. Removal of side burden is very less, since they have been removed by erosion. Therefore, the operation involves the removal of quartz only.
