Pakistani Swedish Institute of Technology Landhi Karachi was established in the year 1957 with the Technical Assistance by Royal Swedish Government. The institute is situated at main National High way Landhi, Quaidabad, Karachi. The most of Machinery & Equipment was provided by Swedish Government about 50 years back have become old and now it needs repair and updatation. During the year 1999, Technical Education Project (TEP) provided Machinery & Equipment worth of Million of rupees for strengthening of existing Labs & work shops and also introduced new Technology of Printing Graphic and Arts Technology, but up till to-date no teaching faculity of this technology has been provided. The institute has engaged Teachers in Printing Graphic & Arts Technology and in other Technonologies on Temporary basis and paying their salaries out of Non-Government funds. 2. During last 05 years, the enrollment of students keeping in view public demand have been increased, therefore institute is facing shortage of furniture and fixtures. Although the institute has recently been repaired and renovated by the Education works Department, but there is still need of repair and maintenance of left over wings, such as wood work Production Unit and Garment Production Unit. Since institute was originally designed on Swedish Pattern, under which main emphasis was given to practical training, but due to switching on revised syllabus of Annual System in the year 1990, the practical aspect of this institute is weakened. 3. There is need of additional Class rooms in all (04) Departments of Electrical, Mechanical, Garment and Printing Graphic and Arts Technology with creation of Offices of instructional Staff. (2) 4. Besides academic activities, the institute possesses two production units, which have become defunct by the Ex-management in the year 2000. Therefore there is need of revival of these production Units on urgent basis, if other wise the machinery and equipments worth of Millions of rupees and raw material lying in these units will get further deterioration 5. The institute possesses a residential Colony for staff of the institute, the basic amenities e.g water Supply, Sewerage, Electrification and roads within the campus and in the colony need repair and maintenance. More over it is pertinent to be mention that due to non availability of electric meters on each Quarter in staff colony the Government is bearing heavy loss towards the recovery of electricity charges therefore there is need of installation of Electric Meters in Staff colony. 6. Presently more than, 2000 Students are pursuing Technical Education in the institute and about 100 employees are rendering service, but the institute has no transport / conveyance facilities. Therefore they need a coach to fetch the staff and students. (3) 2. Need Assessment. a‐ Building and basic amenities e.g Water supply system, Electrification, Sewerage system and internal roads need repair and maintenance. b‐ Repair and Maintenance of 500 KVA Sub station. c‐ There is need of Latest Equipments and Machinery, computers, furniture, library books and other physical facilities to strengthen the capability of institute. d‐ Filling up of vacant posts of Teachers, Supporting Staff, on urgent basis. e‐ Revival of Production Units. f‐ Allocation of adequate funds to meet the cost of instructional material and operational cost of the institute. g‐ Transportation Facilities for Staff and Students. h‐ Construction of under ground water tank for storage of drinking water. i‐ Installation of separate Electric meter in the Institute Staff colony. j‐ Construction of Electronic Lab, class room & Workshop for newly introduced Electronic Technology. k‐ Many equipment and machinery are received through TEP 2005‐06 but equipments are without accessories and no training about equipments utilization is given. for example: Thermodynamic Trainer , Hydraulic Trainer , PLC Trainer.
