Southlake needs a better park system with trails for walking, like Keller has. I believe when citizens requested more sidewalks they meant in their neighborhoods and around schools, not along 1709. I do not see people using them to walk along such a busy street. It's time to slow down the growth. New developments, such as Carillon and Shady Oaks, are too congested. The new development planned at Dove and 114 will be over the top. Dove Road can't handle the volume. We need to stick to original zoning plans. While I support providing recreational parks, I think some of the recent and planned spending (traffic circle art; recreation center; children's safety center, Southlake "signs") are a waste of money, and I would support a lower tax rate instead. The school system is guilty of waste also; the new Administrative Center is excessive. The fact that we're opening our schools to non-CISD residents demonstrates that we have too much capacity. We built new schools, and we have nearly-new schools like Durham sitting 1/2 empty. I also think we should ban Red Light cameras. They're completely unfair and do little to promote safety. In some cases, I believe they do more harm than good. No one listens in the "hearing" process - it's simply a revenue booster and that's clear. The few times I have dealt with the police I have not been impressed with their level of concern and do not feel they have my safety in mind. Speeding in our neighborhood is rampant, but we never see a traffic officer in our area. Animal control is not as responsive as it could be. The city preaches water conservation, but is one of the worse water wasters. I am so frustrated with the lack of a turn lane on east bound 1709 to get into the Tom Thumb shopping center. It is obvious that Txdot did not fully research the turn at White's Chapel. We are required to turn left at the light to get into the shopping center and yet when CHS is dismissed, it's impossible to turn in because cars are backed up at the light in the south bound lanes of White Chapel. Also, if you are going to strictly limit the accessibility of west bound cars on 1709 into the Hobby Lobby shopping center they should be given advance signage that the upcoming turn lane is their only hope of getting in. One more thing..if we are required to make u-turns to get where we are going, then have the arrows stay green long enough to allow cars behind slow u-turners to also get through the intersections. If you are third in line and the 2 cars ahead of you slowly make their u-turns, the light will turn red as you approach. need a side on both sides of Carrol ave - it is a busy street. PLEASE consider increasing the speed limits from 30 to 35 on Continental and Carroll Ave. these streets have a lot of traffic and 30 is TOO slow. we need more bicycle lanes and paths. disappointed that with the construction on Southlake Blvd, that we don't have bicycle lanes. I'm wondering if anyone on the city council got kickbacks from the red light camera company for that 20-year contract, the way politicians did in other cities. Great job! We purposly moved to Southlake for the schools and the neighborhoods. Would still love to have sidewalks and speed bumps on our street. Had we known about the traffic problem on this street, we would have chosen a different neighborhood. 2013 CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY www.CityofSouthlake.com/CitizenSurvey 449 Q45 - KEYWORD: TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT/TURN LANES/STREETS • Please use the box below to let us know anything else you would like to tell the City Manager about Southlake. The water prices here are really high. We've had homes in Valley Ranch and Castle Hills and out here my water bill is usually higher than my electric bill, and I have a 5200 square foot house. I am really happy with the large recycling bins--thank you! I do not like that the people who pick up our trash leave our garbage cans scattered everywhere, on their side, and sometimes in the street. Please give us the ability to gate our neighborhood. Thank you for providing vacation watch programs through the police department. It makes me feel better while I'm out of town. Please put sidewalks down Shady Oaks. There are people constantly walking ON THE ROAD and it's so dangerous for such a small windy road, and in some places a dark road. I would love to see the Bicentennial Park Playground completed. I also would like to see the roundabout at the intersection of White Chapel and Highland road be started and completed. Too many school kids and parents go through that very slow intersection every day. 1. Eliminate the ability to make U - turns on Southlake Blvd. They slow the flow of left hand turning traffic. There is also a safety issue as I have seen too many accidents and have had way too many close calls myself. 2. Regarding the program to beautify Southlake Blvd, my grade is a "C". In a number of locations, the center turn lane was replaced with a strip of concrete. However, the biggest issue is, no matter what is done and how much money is spent, the utility poles that line both sides of the road detract from the effort. The model is the stretch of Southlake Blvd in front of Town Center, no utility poles. For safety the crosswalk from Southview to the town square needs to have crosswalk with more blinking yellow lights on the road itself not just on the sign on the side. Cars are still not stopping and is dangerous for families walking to the square. I can see a tragic accident happening at that crosswalk especially in bad weather. I believe the police officers in each ELEMENTARY is a waste of money. THey could share their responsibilities between the schools. Also, the SRO officers NEED to assist with traffic at the HIGH SCHOOl and other schools. For the most part, they have a lot of down time and alleviating traffic and wrecks would be beneficial to the community. You must continue to maintain the "charm" of Southlake. Continental must remain a 2 lane black top road. Please continue to allow cows, horses etc on properly managed sites. you have an issue with the shrubery turning into the neighborhood walmart across from the fire department (west bound) by the bank. its growth obstructs the drivers view from oncoming traffic. Traffic is bad and getting worse. The new curbs in the middle of the lanes of 1709 have made it worse in my opinion. Our neighborhoods are harder to get too and forces u turns constantly. The stop lights are really backing up especially at Carroll. When I first moved to Southlake one of the best features was the ease of movement through town and neighborhoods. It has gone downhill considerably. 2013 CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY www.CityofSouthlake.com/CitizenSurvey 450 Q45 - KEYWORD: TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT/TURN LANES/STREETS • Please use the box below to let us know anything else you would like to tell the City Manager about Southlake. I would love to see Southlake become even more walkable and bike-friendly. Southlake has made great strides in construction of sidewalks, but we still need dedicated bike paths on certain roads - Whites Chapel and Continental - that are two lanes and very dangerous for cars and bikers to share. I have school kids who would like to be able to walk or bike to school but because Whites Chapel doesn't have sidewalks leading to the high school and Continental doesn't have sidewalks or bike lanes all the way from Byron Nelson Parkway to Kimball, it's not safe for them to. On the traffic management front, I think more needs to be done to manage the traffic at the high school and senior high at the beginning and end of the school day. I applaud whoever decided to have folks directing traffic at the senior high in the morning - it's much smoother. But the same needs to be done at the high school. Yesterday traffic backed all the way to Southlake Blvd. on Whites Chapel - it was a nightmare for parents trying to get their kids there for the PSAT. Perhaps you could work more with the schools to be aware of crunch times when having police officers direct traffic would help alleviate the logjams. I wish we could do away with the medians on Southlake Blvd, but if not, can we at least provide more areas for left-turned so they don't have to U-turn. I also hate the new left turn signal on Southlake Blvd going onto Byron Nelson.
