I ''VOICE OF THE RAIDERS'' I Greg Gahris 1954-1995 In memory of our beloved friend and co-worker Greg Gahris, the radio voice of Wright State University athletics and corporate and group sales manager for the Nutter Center, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 1995. Greg recently completed his 15th season as the radio play-by-play announcer for the WSU men's basketball team, and was employed by the Nutter Center since its inception in 1990. Greg is greatly missed by the entire staff, his many friends, his wife Joanie, his son Matt, 6, and his daughter Alie, 4. Paul Newman, Associate Athletic Director, said it best in a poem he wrote in memory of Greg: A TRIBUTE TO OUR FRIEND A sudden void is felt among us The friendly three Amigos When friends and family leave Were Randy, Greg and Dave Unfamiliar feelings now confront us Through school days, after college It's important that we grieve Shared memories they would save We've cried and hugged each other To Don his Buddha Buddy Knelt down and bowed our head Here's an image, I must warn Blessed are they who mourn Picture a silhouetted sideview For they shall be comforted Of the bookends they would form Now let's reflect and remember Jim Brown along with John Knauss About this man, let's rave Feared a change might cause some strife Travel back through precious moments Could this gator-dancing bachelor Filled with the happiness he gave Be housebroken for a wife? The famed voice of the Raiders Soon they beamed with pride To some, round mound of sound He scored a perfect family-man at bat Coined his own broadcast lingo Using softball hitting hints Such as "off the glass and down" As a T-ball coach for Matt "Count the bucket," all you Rowdies Conversation never passed Greg revered the green and gold Or in the airing of a game Those who'd slight the Raider family That somewhere in that span of talk Would receive a tactful scold He would mention Joanie's name A Wright State function mainstay In the coming weeks and months-frustration TV host, announcer or emcee From the answers we'll demand Ribbing Ralph at downtown luncheons Trying to understand the reasons Telling Vitale, "That's right, babee!" That we cannot understand He drove hotel clerks wild You even got the last laugh on heaven Registering Coleman as his brother All those angels have no choice Then Ron turned to Candy asking, Among those tenors and sopranos "Would you check us all in, Mother?" Is a most discerning voice! Effervescence was his trademark How lucky on this immense planet Exuding gusto teamed with z est To us the good lord would send Treasured each precious moment Such a loving husband and father Lived each minute to the best Brother, son and faithful friend He kept a special bank account By Paul Newman Where the interest never ends July 3 , 1995 Possessed a wealth you couldn't count Rich with talent and with friends Will Rogers never met him But all who heard him through the mike Knew he was a special kind ofguy Who you couldn't help but like BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDE 1 1995-96 RAIDER BASKETBAL WHAT'S INSIDE FACTS I Academics ............................ .... ........................................................ ..... .............. 4 Location: Dayton, Ohio 45435 All-Time Series Records ......... .......................................................................... 66 Founded: 1964; independent Athletic Administration ........................... ............................................... ....... 11-13 university status, 1967 Coaching Staff ............................................................................................. 17-22 Enrollment: 16,488 Dayton ................................... .................................... ........................ ................... 5 President: Dr. Harley E.
