The Horniman Museum and Gardens opened in 1901 and over the last 100 years the Museum has added to the original Grade 2* listed building. The most recent of which was the Centenary Development to create a new extension to improve access and create additional space, which opened in June 2002. The Museum is set in sixteen acres of gardens and together they attract over 750,000 visitors each year. The Museum’s aim is to manage their buildings as efficiently and sustainably as possible providing a high quality environment which is safe and secure for collections, staff and visitors. The Museum’s continuing goal is to develop and improve the way we operate to reduce our environmental impact. In order to ensure the integrity of the site is maintained, the Controls contractor is required to ensure that all proposed works are agreed in advance with the Facilities Manager or in his absence his Deputy. The Controls Contractor shall allow within his tender for compliance with the Museum’s rules for visiting contractors – refer to Appendix 7 – and their policy with regard to contractor’s vehicles – refer to Appendix 8. 100.020 DESIGN PARAMETERS: The Controls installation details shall also be read in conjunction with the existing Control Panel wiring diagrams and descriptions of operation as contained in the existing record documentation – refer to Appendices 3 & 4. The Controls installation details shall be read in conjunction with, and shall comply with Specifications as detailed below. The design criteria shall be confirmed by the Controls Supplier complete with points schedules and supporting documentation as detailed herein within 2 weeks of appointment. Automatic controls installations shall be provided to control all existing items of Mechanical services plant and equipment, as identified within this specification, and existing controls records. The Client shall procure the controls package, which shall include the supply of replacement BMS outstations and ancillary controls for the existing Plantroom MCC’s and BMS Outstations, as detailed. The existing temperature, humidity and pressure sensors, together with the control damper actuators and control valve/actuators shall be checked for compatibility. Harley Haddow LLP Rev 1- 1st August 2011 20011186 – Horniman Museum, Forest Hill BMS Replacement 5 Where necessary any incompatible items with the Trend system shall be replaced, together with alterations to existing wiring as applicable. During the contract any faulty items shall be identified to the CA, with costs and impact on the client’s operation. This work shall be covered via a provisional sum. The system modifications shall be designed and arranged to minimise the downtime of critical items of equipment serving sensitive areas of the Museum. It may be necessary to operate the existing Allerton system as the new system is being retro-fitted. The Controls Contractor shall provide a preliminary review of the works proposed with the tender return. The Controls Contractor shall make due allowance for this changeover procedure to occur out of normal museum opening hours. Working on live equipment shall not be allowed. All necessary health & safety aspects shall be considered and notified in the tender return. The system and all peripheral equipment and devices required shall be fully compliant with the requirements of the Trend BMS manufacturer’s requirements. Each new and retained item shall be capable of performing the particular requirements detailed on the existing wiring diagrams and referred to in the existing controls narrative. The existing communications network between the Allerton BMS Outstations may not be suitable for use by the Trend BMS and full provision shall be made by the Controls Contractor for a new Ethernet ring network (LAN) to be installed as required. A Trend BMS system has been recently installed within the Museum specifically for sub-metering and the works involved in integration shall be confirmed by the Controls Contractor as part of his site inspection survey undertaken during the tender period. The system shall be fully user programmable in order that set points, time schedules and DDC control functions can be altered without specialist attendance. Design and coordination working drawings shall be prepared by the Controls Contractor. The consultant’s drawings are a guide only of the services scheme intent and no warranty is given to the completeness or accuracy of the information. The consultants drawings shall not be relied upon or relieve the Contractor of his responsibilities and obligations to produce fully designed and coordinated working drawings for the execution of the complete works and to allow for all necessary costs associated with this in the tender sum. 100.030 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION: All works associated with the design and supply of a DDC based Automatic Control System, including the alteration of the existing Control Panels and associated controls wiring and power wiring between the control panels and the items of mechanical plant shall be supplied, installed, configured, commissioned, tested and demonstrated by the Controls Contractor. The Controls Contractor shall also provide final data and commissioning certificates as required under subsequent clauses, provide a minimum of 3 no. separate days for training to the client’s representatives and provide complete O&M Manual documentation. CP01 - Centenary Gallery (also known as Lecture Halll) 2. CP02 - African World (also known as South Hall) (including Basement) 3. CP03 - Decentralised Boiler House ( also known as North Hall) 4. CP04 - Dark Room (Plantroom 1) 5. CP05 - CUE Building 6. CP06 - Chiller Compound 7. CP07 - Bothy Building 8. CP08 - Main Building Galleries (Level 3) 9. CP09 - Window Actuators 10. CP10 - Main Building Galleries (Level 1) 11. CP11 - African World display cabinet temp & humidity monitoring sensors 12. CP12 - Centenary Gallery display cabinet temp & humidity monitoring sensors 13. CP13 - Chiller 1 14. CP14 - Chiller 2 15. CP15 - North Hall display cabinet temp & humidity monitoring sensors (future) All existing Allerton DDC controls will be removed and disposed of at an approved waste recycling centre by the Controls Contactor, except the APLC’s and APEX’s which once removed shall be handed to the museum for spare parts on another site.
