Counselor, Providence Veterans' Administration Hospital Oncology Floor Responsibilities included working with terminally ill men on the oncology floor in an effort to help them cope with their impending deaths. SPECIALIZED PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION 1976 - Present International Work Group on Death, Dying, and Bereavement. Founded in 1974, this invitation-only group of principals in thanatology is an international organization that exists to support leaders in the field of death, dying, and bereavement in their efforts to stimulate and enhance innovative ideas, research, and practice. 1998 - 2013 Sudden, Traumatic Loss Research Group. This group of five psychologists came together with the stated purposed of discovering more effective methods of intervention with traumatically- bereaved individuals. It produced and pilot-tested a structured, 20-week treatment protocol designed to meet the unique needs of survivors of traumatic loss by integrating five major theoretical approaches into the treatment. In 2002, private corporate funding was received to tailor the protocol, teach it to therapists, and evaluate its efficacy with adults who lost loved ones in 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attacks. After that, the group continued to refine the treatment, which was expanded into a book published in 2014.
