The present church was built between 1579 and 1587. Rebuilt in Neo-Gothic style between 1879 and 1882. OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ Cultural monuments THE CHURCH OF SAINT CROSS dating from the mid-18th century the most precious baroque edifice in the town built in the place of the original church designed by the builder J.J. Kunze in 1696. the church probably got its name due to its ground plan, which really did resemble a cross. OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ Cultural institution F.X.ŠALDA THEATRE was constructed in neo-renaissance style opened in 1883 the history of theatrical life in the town began in 1600s the theatre has gradually expanded its activities to include drama and ballet OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ Cultural institution Museum The North Bohemia (built in 1873) the present building built in 1897-1898 in the neo-renaissance style. first impressions focus on the slim tower- the exact copy of the original Liberec town hall tower. exhibits of the natural science, archaeology, and history of North Bohemia. particular attention is paid to the development of the textile industry in the region. OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ Cultural monuments THE WALDSTEIN´ S HOUSES the oldest preserved houses in Liberec originate from 1678-81 nowadays the only building reminding us of this clasical type of merchant house which used to decorate the whole of the New Town OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ Cultural monuments THE LIEBIEG HOUSE Baron Theodor von Liebieg - the owner of one of the largest factories in the country at that time decided to build a residence for his family not far from the factory. the result - this romantic half-timbered manor-house with bay-windows at the corners built in 1897. OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ Attraction Liberec Zoo dates back to 1919 the oldest in the Czech Republic specialises in breeding rare species of animals or those which are critically endangered in the wild the white tiger, is a true rarity and is a major attraction for visitors OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ Attraction The Botanical Gardens opened to the public in 1895 extensive reconstruction work has created what are now the most modern gardens in Bohemia, with glasshouses that are truly a paradise of plants. OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ The JIZERA MOUTAINS Liberec is situated at the foot of the Jizera Mountains, the highest peak is Smrk - 1124 metres above sea – level with a modern tower. There are excellent facilities for tourists, mountain – climbing, cross- country skiing, running, as well as biking. OUR TOWN MIRO SMUTNÝ FIS Nordic World Ski championships in 2009 in Liberec the biggest sports event in the country's history. 589 athletes from 61 countries. Our visit helped us getting to know and using the common Internet platform. Now we are included in the platform, too. Our friends prepared the program very carefully.
