Stylebible Expert: Red carpet looks by Joy of Colour Joy of Colour’s Michaela Jedinak has selected the best, the goods and the ‘ehs’ of this year’s red carpet walkers. How did she decide who was best dressed? The same way you can figure out what looks good on you. Reer to her simple guidelines and you’ll look as good as all these hotties did on the red carpet: • Make sure the colour of the outfit suits your current dominant colour (based on skin, eye and hair colour) • Look at the shape of your dress or suit in relation to your body shape • Look at the proportion of your dress or suit as compared to your proportions • Does the outfit fit your personality? • What is your status at this event? Just as celebs have a star status, you too will have a status at your event. Are you hosting it or attending? Are you speaking to high-powered executives or a group of students? Take those pointers, mix in a bit of Michaela’s colour expertise and you can’t go wrong! THE GOOD These celebs ticked all the right boxes and then some with their (or their stylist’s) unique looks and deep understanding of colour, shape and character. Cate Blanchett: The dress, the shape and the colour are all fabulous. It is great to see her in batting 100% after the slight mishap at the Golden Globes. Penelope Cruz: She brought us understated beauty and glamour, keeping her look current by not spoiling it with too much makeup or jewellery. The look underscores her stylish yet subdued personality with its nude tones and simple, romantic cut. Dame Helen Mirren: This is a woman who knows how to accentuate her good parts. Great colour for her dominant colour, great shape and most importantly she looks comfortable and relaxed yet regal, just as she should. THE OKAY They chose safe options that worked but don’t really separate them from the pack. Nicole Kidman: Always the superstar in her choices of dress, hair, accessories and makeup all work for her, but we wonder about the colour. It’s wearing her. Long strawberry blonde hair coupled with long red dress means there’s too much going on. Jennifer Lopez: She is always glam but we think this chameleon could do something more original! The colour works with her skin but we have seen it before. We think JLo could and should pull out all the stops. THE EH These celebs’ looks were just a bit off. Maybe it is the colour or maybe the cut, but something is making them less fabulous than we know they could look! Kirsten Dunst: The colour is only a shade or two off but the shape and style don’t flatter her body shape, especially with the fringe. We think if you’re going to do fringe, Kirsten, do a flapper dress. It’s fun and fits your star personality! Anne Hathaway: She is young and GORGEOUS but has been dressed in a gown that is too old for her, not flattering her lovely figure. The colour and the accessories do not play up her beautiful, sparkling features either. But as we saw in The Devil Wears Prada, this probably is not long-lasting. She usually looks great.
