Johnson seeks his first ATP World Tour singles title overall, coming as close as a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 loss to then-No. 8 David Ferrer in the 2015 Vienna final. At No. 38 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, Johnson is the fourth highest-ranked player yet to win a title. A two-time singles and four-time team champion at the University of Southern California, Johnson captured his first ATP World Tour doubles title at Geneva on May 21 with Sam Querrey. Cuevas arrived in Nottingham with two grass-court wins in his career. The World No. 25 has added four more, beating Stephane Robert before toughing out three-setters against Daniel Evans, No. 9 seed Marcos Baghdatis and No. 8 seed Gilles Muller. A win by Cuevas in the final would mark the seventh time this season that a player saved match point en route to a title. Baghdatis held a match point on Cuevas in the quarter-finals. The Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo champion would be the fourth player to win three or more titles in 2016, joining Novak Djokovic (6), Dominic Thiem (4) and Stan Wawrinka (3). The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will meet for the doubles title as Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo take on Great Britain’s Dominic Inglot and 43-year-old Canadian Daniel Nestor. Dodig and Melo are appearing in their first final of 2016 after capturing three titles as a team in 2015. Inglot and Nestor are partnering for the second time following a first-round loss last week at London/Queen’s Club to eventual champions Pierre- Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut. Nestor is attempting to win an ATP title for the 23rd straight year.
