September, 1908 - 1243 904 May, 1909 - 471 325 Total - 1714 1229 8.—COUNCIL. Sir John Madden and Sir Henry Wrixon have been re­ elected Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor respectively for the year 1909. Professor Baldwin Spencer, C.M.G., M.A., F.R.S., was re-elected for a term of five years. Leave of absence for six months, from the beginning of August, was granted to Mr. John Grice, to Mr. M'Leod for three months from the beginning of the year, to Mr. T. Fink for eight months from 1st March. 37A 574 ANNUAL REPORT, 1908-1909. 9.—DEATH OP PROFESSOR KEENOT, M.A., M.C.E., M.Inst.C.E. The Council reports with great regret the death of Profesor Kernot, which occurred on 14th March, and places on record its deep sense of loss on his death, and its high appreciation of his learning, patriotism and unselfishness. The late Professor had occupied the chair in Engineering for 26 years, and had for some years previously acted as Lecturer in Engineering subjects. The following arrangements for carrying on the work of the Engineering School during the present year have been made: — Mr. G. Higgins to be Acting-Professor and Lecturer in Applied Mechanics; Mr. J. T. Lupson, Lecturer on Sur­ veying, Parts I. and II.; Mr. J. B. Lewis, Lecturer on Mechanical Engineering, Parts I. and II. 10.—LECTURERS AND DEMONSTRATORS. Dr. James Jamieson, at the end of 1908, resigned his position as Lecturer in Medicine and received the warm thanks of the Council for his valuable services during a period of 30 years.
