For the second year in a row, Foróige's St. Joseph's Youth Programme Mayfield have successfully completed an Intercultural Exchange with Hong Kong, funded through Foróige and EIL. Ten young people from the communities of Mayfield, the Glen, Glanmire and Mahon, as well as their three leaders, travelled to Hong Kong in August to gain an intercultural learning experience. The young people got the opportunity to visit many exciting well known Hong Kong landmarks as well as carrying out pieces of Charity Work. Our young people facilitated a presentation to the Hong Kong Government showcasing what life is like for young people in Ireland as well as their role as foróige ambassadors in their community. The presentation went down extremely well with the Hong Kong Ambassadors. We then hosted 12 delegates from Hong Kong on the return leg at the end of August, whereby we shared insight and experiences into life in Ireland, and visited locations such as Blarney Castle, Garrettstown Beach and The Old Head of Kinsale, St. Luke's Nursing Home, The Gap of Dunloe and Muskross House and Gardens Killarney, as well as visiting Dublin City Centre. This was a fantastic opportunity for our young people and a very successful exchange between two very different cultures, where many new and exciting friendships and links were created. Our thanks to Foróige and EIL for offering this amazing opportunity to our young people. The ever popular social Ballroom and Latin American dance classes run by the Cork Dance Club will this autumn transfer from the Blarney Woollen Mills Hotel to Brian Dillons H & F Club Mayfield. “We’re very excited about the move, as are our students, as the GAA club has become a popular hub for ballroom dancing in the last few months, with social dances now taking place there ” say tutors Betty and Eddie. MAYFIELD SHOPPING CENTRE Cork Dance Club offers a variety of group dance classes for all levels in a relaxed and social atmosphere. “Our aim is to ensure that you have lots of fun while learning a new skill and getting some exercise into the bargain” adds Eddie. Everyone has the potential to be a dancer with the proper instruction and confidence. Learning to dance is no different from learning any other discipline. It may feel awkward at first, that’s to be expected. Eventually you will master the basics and will be able to dance with full enjoyment without having to think about it. You will be able to just feel it and dance. The good news is learning to dance is always fun, even at the early stages. Dance lessons are normally given in succession with you learning step by step and building on what you have already learned. By learning in a step by step fashion and practising in between your lessons you will develop a muscle memory and eventually your dance steps and routines and effortless movement to the music will become like second nature to you. Cork Dance Club’s lessons encompass many different dance styles including, Waltz, Jive, Quickstep, Tango, Cha Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Samba, Rumba and lots more. Whether you want to dance at your wedding, deb’s/grad’s ball or just because you’re looking for a new hobby this autumn, you will find that learning how to ballroom dance will give you the confidence to do any of the above anywhere. “Here at Cork Dance Club we like to get to know all our students and regularly hold social events such as weekend Tel: 021 450 6633 dances, a Valentine’s Ball, week-ends away, dance [email protected] holidays and Christmas parties where you can come and meet new people and show off your dance skills. Our specialty is adult lessons, so if you’re between the Open - MONDAY - SATURDAY: ages of 18 and 88 years old, you are welcome to explore the world of dance with us at Cork Dance Club. If you think your age has anything to do with your ability to dance, you’re wrong…we believe it’s never too early or late to fall in love with dance” adds instructor Anne Hurley. 9am– 6pm Cork Dance Club’s new beginners’ classes commence on Tuesday September 10th in Brian Dillons H & F Club Mayfield at 7.15 p.m. and Bandon Rugby Club on Monday September 16th at 7 p.m. To find out more have a look at the website www.corkdanceclub.com or contact Anne for more information at 087 2487696, or Betty and Eddie 087 1239633.
