INTRODUCTION

In the past worthwhile “signature events” brought fame and fortune to countries, provinces and cities all over the world.

Modern times with its competition on all fronts and increasing entertainment options make it very difficult to find a place in the sun for any new activity, and it is not easy to create such events without simply copying another event.

Our aim was to find an event that would stand out and live up to the challenge of becoming

a Signature event for Mpumalanga.

This presentation tells you more.

2. THE SABIE 109TT

This will be an event based on international proven results that will, combined

with local vision and drive, create a Signature event for Mpumalanga.

Chances are that it will become one of the best and most exciting South African Sporting events, ever!

This event will be based on a world-renowned motorcycle race, held annually for more than a century on the Isle of Man.

3. THE ISLE OF MAN TT

The Isle of Man TT is a race for motorcycles that has been running since 1907. It is an iconic motorcycle race and seen as the ultimate test for man and machine. Thousands of spectators flock to the Isle of Man annually to take in this incredible event filled with road-gladiators and real heroes – people who share the adrenaline rush with every spectator and millions of TV viewers all over the world.

Words simply cannot describe it.

4. MOTIVATION FOR THE SABIE 109TT

The roads flowing through the panoramic Mpumalanga Province are renowned among the biking fraternity as arguably the best “biker-roads” in South Africa.

Bikers from all over have been travelling to the towns of Sabie, Hazyview and Graskop to enjoy these roads over many years.

The combination of these roads, the popularity of the area and the challenge offered to the adventurous tourist made the decision of the Sabie 109TT Company easy.

We decided to propose an event with all the required potential to become

Mpumalanga’s Signature.

An event that would:-

• promote the region, • enhance tourism, • create jobs in the community and • generate multiple opportunities.

5. THE COMPANY

Sabie 109TT (Pty) Ltd was formed with an infrastructure able to handle events of this prestigious nature.

The shareholders are four local professional business persons, while a fifth experienced partner, professionally involved in motorsport was included to further proper planning and professional management of the proposed events.

Sabie 109TT (Pty) Ltd was also set-up to be BEE compliant. Restructuring to conform

is possible when required. We are ready, willing and able to move, the moment we receive the green light from the Mpumalanga government.

6. THE ROAD TO THE SABIE 109TT

We knew that to uplift and add value to the area, we needed to find a practical and if possible also a proven way to utilise existing facilities that would keep cost down.

At first it seemed impossible to find such combination but we persevered. Ideas were placed on the table, but no matter what, one single aspect kept popping up and we found the answer right here, almost naturally on our doorstep.

This was motorcycle country! We realised that the area lent itself naturally to an event that would fulfil all our aspirations, rejuvenate the area and draw tourists to it.

Intense research into the world of motorcycle enthusiasts and discussions with various experts involved in especially the iconic Isle of Man TT races, showed that we could create an equally successful event in Mpumalanga using the 109km between Sabie,

Hazyview and Graskop or parts thereof.

The mystique of the area, the challenge and atmosphere of an official motorcycle event, properly marketed would draw enthusiasts from all over the world.

We had 109kms of magic to use and the name SABIE 109TT stuck.

7. ADVANTAGES

The positive aspects of the SABIE 109TT will make it stand on its own as an exceptional event and will have positive spin-off in other important areas.

It will create

• much needed job opportunities, • generate a substantial contribution to infrastructure maintenance, and will • draw national as well as foreign investment to the area.

Fact is, we found all the ingredients for the success recipe right here under our noses, ready to use.

8. EVENTS

The Sabie 109TT company plans to host at least two events per annum, while building up to what we see as the ultimate “Signature event”, the Sabie 109TT (International)

during 2017/2018.

The intended development program leading to the Sabie 109TT is:
• start with a “pilot” event in July 2015, and • then host the SABIE22TT again in 2016 and 2017 possibly over different sections of the route.
• Then in 2018 with teething problems and unforeseen issues under control we should

be in a position to present the real McCoy - The International SABIE 109TT

Additional supporting events at different times of the year will be hosted over different sections of the route such as for instance Kowyns Pass for Hill Climbs and/or Time Trails for motorcycles and Super Cars.

The “pilot” event in 2015 - the Sabie 22TT will be limited to 100 entries for

motorcycles and 50 for cars and will serve as the showcase event for the intended series. There is an excellent chance that we may draw one or more International entrants to this event, but if we are able to generate financial support to bring them to South Africa – there will be more.

International participation will generate exceptional interest that we will have to control by limiting spectator numbers for the first event.

This “precaution” will increase the value of the event and ensure that we will be able to handle all the associated problems.

9. CRUCIAL FACTORS

This project is dependent on the following: 9.1 AGREEMENT

Exclusive rights to SABIE109TT (PTY) LTD to host and/or control motorsport and related events over the specified 109kms of tar road between Sabie, Hazeyview and Graskop to Sabie for an extended period of no less than seven years with renewal options.

Such an agreement is essential to enable us to enter into long-term sponsorship-negotiations ensuring continuity for sponsors, the business community, organisers, fans and of course the area.

9.2 MANAGEMENT OF ROUTE FOR THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE

It is also very important that you entrust us to manage the route professionally for the period and not allow any “rogues” to endanger the reputation of this

Signature event. 9.3 ROAD MAINTENANCE

The program is spread over a number of years allowing enough time for the resurfacing of the route where required.

At this stage the road section for the SABIE 22TT is 99% ready. We have at our own costs cleaned up the sides of the road for an inspection by the Motorsport controlling body in South Africa – MSA.

We have obtained their approval subject to the road and area being ready for the first event. The maintenance will have to include some additional safety barriers, suitable and biker friendly markings such as cats-eyes when replaced.

It is noteworthy that all repairs to this route will be beneficial to and form part of the essential infrastructure anyway.

Money well spent all the time. 9.4 WRITTEN PERMISSIONS

It is critical that we receive written permission for the 2015 events within the next month and a written agreement for the extended period before end 2014.

Time is of essence as further delays will set this project back unnecessary. It must be noted that areas such as the Western Cape could also decide to jump onto this lucrative band-wagon, as the intended event is no longer secret due to us having to discuss it with a number of people to determine its potential.

An announcement from our side will probably deter them from competing with us.

9.5 MEDIA AND PROMOTION

We will appreciate involvement from the government in making facilities available for media promotions and important celebrities when needed.

The success of this incredible event lies in your hands!

10. PROJECTED 22TT INCOME

After calculating the true potential for the first event, the prediction is that it should boost the local economy by around R46m.

This activity will create temporary jobs for about 200 people and casual jobs for another 400.

With this goes the training for the required tasks, which knowledge and skills

will come in handy in future.

11. VALUABLE SUPPORTING INFORMATION

During our research, it came as a pleasant surprise to note that more than 75 000 people from the biker fraternity took part in a recent “Toy-Run” in South Africa for underprivileged children.

Margate in KwaZulu had a “Harley Davidson weekend” recently and drew 25000 people to the area!

This is massive and if we succeed in equalling these figures – Mpumalanga will have its

Signature Event!

The majority of all participants in these events, including fans, are from the LSM 8 to 10 groups.

The International events will attract international racing competitors that will impact on spectator value and numbers.

Effective marketing and strategic planning are all we need.

12. TOURIST ACTIVITY AND INVESTMENT

To ensure continuous awareness we plan to allow bikers to cover the route during “non-race times” subject to all the road-safety rules.

They will receive a certificate after they passed certain checkpoints and they will be able to purchase various memorabilia.

We expect groups to take part in this activity and as we are involved in the adventure business already we will be able to accommodate this project with ease.

Again job creation.

Word will spread and this will become a “bucket list” thing to do, which will increase the tourism figure dramatically causing more local business development.

13. TOURIST ACTIVITY 2017 ONWARDS

By 2016 the event will draw huge crowds – predicted to grow to 25 000 to 35 000 by 2017 if we can create the necessary facilities.

This will have a massive impact on the economy, as an event of such nature should generate at least R165m.

Our favourable exchange rate may cause an arguably pleasant “problem” of over-crowding that will in turn ensure a massive cash flow into the province, natural expansion and many jobs!

14. IN TIME TO FOLLOW

This spectacle will keep on growing as we will be offering the most sought after ingredient

of modern man and woman – extreme adventure.

The images of motorbike racers doing 300km/h plus on the magic route during the Sabie 109TT will remain with enthusiast as well as normal tourist for a long, long time to come.

Paying a visit to this area and drive over the route will become one of those things you have to do in life!

15. EXPOSURE FOR THE PROVINCE AND REGION

It is safe to predict that

• the uniqueness of this project and • the newsworthiness for the Mpumalanga government regarding sustained upkeep of infrastructure
• And various other factors will generate ample publicity.

We foresee that the Mpumalanga government get ready for a renewed influx of tourists, enthusiasts, fans and investors who will want to be part of this spectacle.

It is logic that a large portion of publicity required – especially radio, TV and print will self-generate, while the balance will come from sponsors, motorsport controlling bodies

and our media contacts. Cost effective!

16. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The Sabie 109TT will positively impact job creation, training and development. Hundreds of officials will be needed and trained for every event.

Identified job opportunities include:

• Various marshals and other officials.

• Park and Ride operators.

• Hospitality services, including all related aspects. • Spectator information centres.

• Various types of scenic and educational tours. • Airport shuttles and

• The Sabie 109TT event organisation – will require suitably skilled people on a permanent basis.
• Safety and security operators • Fire prevention and related operations

The opportunities are endless.

17. THE SABIE 109TT LEGACY

We aim to create an iconic event with huge positive effects for this area. Contributions to deserving causes in Sabie, Hazyview and Graskop will come from this.

The present growth in participation of motorcycling in the emerging market, opens an

opportunity to offer specialist training for these “new” motorcyclists, which will improve

road-safety and grow the sport.

In short - Sabie109tt is fully committed to add value to the area in any way we can.

We can hardly wait to get started.

18. GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE REQUIRED

Specific assistance will be required from government in the following areas: a)

b)

The official agreement and permissions to control motorsport and related

activity over the described route. Road infrastructure upgrade.
• At first the 22km section from Sabie to the Kiepersol turnoff. • R533 up Kowyns Pass • Then later Kiepersol turnoff to Hazyview R536; • Hazyview to Graskop R535; • Sabie to Graskop R532 • local municipalities will also have to play a part in infrastructure upgrades within their boundaries.

c) d)
Traffic Department for general and specific assistance of traffic control. Input into Tourist/driver enhancement. e) f)
General policing of the area to manage crime. Financial assistance for research, media events and negotiation with international bodies later on.

g)

Local government needs to nominate a representative to be on the organising

committee and to act as a liaison between the organising committee and local government;

h)

Local government should co-ordinate the selected role players to assist,

comply and fulfil their obligations.

19. THE VISION

We trust that you will share the same vision as we have for this project and that you realise

that this will be the biggest motorsport event in South Africa. COME JOIN US ON THE FLOWING ROAD TO SUCCESS

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, for all of us to become part of what will arguably

become the major motorsport event in South Africa.

Imagine the
• activity, • the adrenaline rush, • the crowds and • impact on the local economy. • The exceptional growth in an area where a government was blessed with
VISION and
• DRIVE to improve the area for its people.

Let us join hands on the road to INTERNATIONAL FAME!

20.
