West, Professor of Political Science at Brown University and Vice President of Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution. It shows the people whom I met, meetings attended, lunches and dinners organized, cultural events enjoyed, and lectures both attended and delivered. The record starts in 1995 when I was living in Providence, Rhode Island. I was teaching political science at Brown University and organized a number of lecture events, participated in various news interviews, and dealt with scholars from other universities. As a teacher, I was in regular contact with students and colleagues. As an author of several books, I kept in touch with experts from around the country. As a pollster, public lecturer, and news commentator, I had many dealings with prominent politicians, reporters, and community leaders. The period between 1995 and 2007 was a tumultuous time in the history of the country and the globe, and my schedule reflects efforts to understand these developments. It was not easy making sense of domestic or global affairs, but I tried to gain insights from a number of different people. My hope is that this book is instructive about how one individual spent his time during this tumultuous time period. 4 Sunday, January 1, 1995 Sunday, January 8, 1995 Weight: 185 pounds Weight: 185
