I am married and have 3 sons. I have a Degree in Law from the University of Deusto and have been a practising lawyer since I retired from football in 1981 until I was first appointed as President of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol in 1988. CVITAE PLAYER I began my career as a football player like any other child in school and the streets of my neighbourhood. I then played in the youth categories of several teams in Biscay until I became a professional player in First Division in the Athletic Club de Bilbao. Throughout my career, I have played more than 400 matches with my lifelong club, for over 11 seasons, in the competitions in my country and UEFA. With my club I was Champion of the Spanish Cup in 1973, and finalist of the old UEFA Cup in 1978. I had the pleasure of playing with the Spanish National Football Team for five years. This unforgettable stage of my life has provided me with great knowledge of the game and its values. MANAGING POSITIONS IN MY COUNTRY I started to hold leading positions during my stage as professional player, when I founded, along with other colleagues, the football players’ Union in my country, where I held the position of Vice-President. While I was playing Premier Division football, I studied Law. A few months after hanging up my boots, at 32 years old, I was appointed President of the Football Federation of my province (Biscay), combining this activity with my work as a lawyer. During this period, my first responsibility was to organize and develop amateur, children and youth football. In 1988, I was appointed President of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol RFEF, position that I still hold today. My position as an official in Spain has given me vast knowledge on both local structures of amateur and professional football. It has also given me the opportunity to support and help, through RFEF, those national associations that have so requested. Lastly, I am very proud to have contributed during this period to a large increase in the number of amateur clubs, players, referees and coaches in my country, and to have participated in the most brilliant period for Spanish national teams and clubs throughout its history. FOOTBALL IS MY LIFE. INTERNATIONAL MANAGING POSITIONS My career holding international leading positions began when I was elected member of the UEFA Executive Committee I HAVE GONE THROUGH MANY in 1992.
