Gun Shows 4 Shooting 5 Schedule El Presidente Notes from the Range Master…DOWN RANGE! Can’t believe another year has gone by, but I’m sure this coming one will be just as fun. Planning on a couple of “Josey Wales” stages for the February match. Stage will still be set for standard SASS if you don’t want to shoot “Josey-style”. For those who do - a Josey Wales shoot uses four pistols instead of two pistols and a rifle. You stage the two extra pistols like you would your rifle. Cali- bers don’t have to match, you don’t have to shoot gunfighter style…it’s just to do something different. With deer season ending soon, we hope to re-engage Brock to get the long range up and running as well and don’t forget that Comancheria Days (1-5 April) are coming fast. RO I and II classes are Wednesday and Side Matches/Wild Bunch take place on Thursday. Main match runs Friday and Saturday. It’s a great time and there are peo- ple of every skill level so don’t worry about being “good enough”. Bring family and friends to come watch! Simpson Treasurer South Texas Pistolaros (210) 884-0991 Costume Contest January 4, 2020 Cowboy Action Shooting Match The South Texas Pistolaros will once again hold a Costume Contest at the January CAS Match. The winners will receive a Free Match, which can be applied to a future South Texas Pistolaros Match. There are only two categories, “Mens” and “Ladies” Formal attire will be judged the same as “working” or “shooting’ attire. No Entry Form will be required. If you are a registered shooter for the January Match, you will be automatically entered. Judging will be done by last years winners, who are ineligible to compete. Quanah Parker Chief of the Qua Ha Di Comanche The bronze likeness of Quanah Parker show below is located at the Ft. Worth Stockyards. It is perhaps ironic that his once-prominent location at the Stockyards has been practically obscured by construction of hotels and commercial buildings. His band of Comanche dwindled to fewer than 100 as they too were steadily surrounded by “civilization” (and Col. Ranald Mackenszie) in the latter half of the 19th Century. His mother, (captive) Cynthia Ann Parker, was “rescued” by a combined force of Texas Rang- ers and soldiers led by future Governor Sul Ross in 1860. She and her daughter, Topsanna, did not live long after being returned to her white relatives. Quanah led his band until finally sur- rendering at Ft. Sill in 1875. He went on to serve his tribe well, insuring their successful adap- tation into their new reservation lives. He died in 1911. New-to-CAS individuals or guest without a valid SASS membership but with a documented knowledge of safe firearms hand skills (LTC, NRA certifi- cation, etc.) who desire to participate in a club match will be referred to the Range Master, or other designated Officer, for on-site orientation. If time permits, the orientation will be held before the match. If the Range Master and Match Director concur, the individuals will be assigned a mentor and permitted to register as a competitor. Any person who have not completed any type of formal firearms training but wish to participate in CAS will be referred to a formal CAS orientation session to be provided by the club. The orientation session will use a classroom setting to address basic firearms safety, handling CAS firearms safely, SASS match protocols, and range and club safety rules. Upon suc- cessful completion of the classroom session, attendees will have the opportunity to shoot in a controlled setting on the CAS range. Cost per students has yet to be determined, but a range fee of $11.00 per person plus the cost of suitable ammunition is to be expected. Guest Shooter Liability Waiver Policy Any contestant at a match who is not currently a member of the South Texas Pistolaros must first read and sign a liability waiver before competing.
