MilitaryINSTALLATIONS - U.S. Department of Defense 10/7/18 MilitaryInstallations Booklet for Joint Base San Antonio (Lackland Randolph Sam Houston) Fast Facts Location: Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) is situated in San Antonio, (Bexar County), the seventh largest city and known as "Military City USA." Encompassing JBSA are Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base, three separate installations. Fort Sam Houston's primary mission is medical training and support and is home to Brooke Army Medical Center. See Fort Sam Houston homepage. The primary mission at Lackland AFB is training: basic military, technical, English language and technical training in Spanish to allied countries. See Joint Base San Antonio Homepage. Randolph AFB is located northeast of the city and houses several headquarters including Air Education & Training Command (AETC), Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC), and Air Force Headquarters Recruiting Services. BRAC Status: BRAC 2005 recommended (172 Med 10) the consolidation of all inpatient and Level-One trauma care from Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) and Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) into one medical region with two integrated campuses known as San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). Brooke Army Medical Center is now an inpatient tertiary care center providing all inpatient care as well as all trauma and emergency medical care, now referred to as SAMMC. Wilford Hall Medical Center was converted into a large ambulatory care center, called Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center (WHASC). All military health care falls under the San Antonio Military Health System (SAMHS). Randolph AFB gained 182 personnel. Operator : Operator services are limited, now mostly automated. Family Child Care (FCC) offers age appropriate care for children 4 weeks through 12 years of age in approved homes. Phone: 210-221- 5002. Lackland AFB: There are three day care facilities on Lackland. You may pick up a list of family day care homes at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 1249, or at the Family Day Care Office located in Bldg. 6629. Randolph AFB: There are two facilities on Randolph AFB. The main Child Development Program (CDP) provides care for children, 2-5 years of age, and is located in building 1072. Phone: 210-652-4946. The Child Development Program Annex provides care for children, 6 weeks - 24 months of age, and is located in building 734. In addition, the annex offers a Part Day Enrichment Program for preschool children in the Youth Center, building 584. Phone: 210-652-1140. FSH ISD and RFISD both accept transfer waiver applications in grades K-12, Lackland ISD only accepts transfer applications for grades 9-12. Fort Sam Houston ISD, Lackland ISD or Randolph Field ISD are not part of the Department of Defense school system, they are independent school districts subject to the jurisdiction of the Texas Education Agency. As the district's boundaries are coterminous with those of JBSA-FSH, JBSA-Lackland and JBSA-Randolph, the facilities of which by law are exempt from property taxation, the district has no taxable base; thus, funding is provided from Department of Education Impact Aid funds and state public school foundation funding. There are 23 Independent School Districts that service military families around JBSA. Call 210-221-3502 In addition to the Youth Center, a Teen Center provides a number of programs designed to help teens successfully transition to adulthood and to instill character and leadership qualities in them. There are several programs associated with the new Teen Center to include: Torch Clubs, Keystone Clubs, Smarts Girls, Passport to Manhood, National Fine arts Exhibit Program and more. It offers a wide range of activities to include sports programs, arts and crafts, other enrichment programs, before/after school care, and summer camps. Randolph AFB Youth Programs (YP) provides activities and programs for youth; Instructional Programs for ages 3 - 18 years and Open Recreation for ages 9 - 18 years. Our year-round, comprehensive program includes activities such as the latest games PlayStation, X-Box, computer educational programs and games, arts and crafts, billiards, foosball, board games, puzzles, basketball and volleyball. Also supporting the center programs are our state-of-the-art playground, six baseball fields, one softball field, one swimming pool (for classes only), a football field, and the use of the base Arts & Crafts Center, tennis courts, Bowling Center, Golf Course, and the base fitness center. NOTE: Visit the Air Force Housing website to find your new home with the Air Force. This website serves as a one-stop shop for Airmen and their families to obtain information about the housing options and support services available to them at Air Force bases worldwide. Lackland AFB Housing has a waiting list and is privatized and managed by Balfour Beatty. Make sure you go to your losing base housing office to have your name added to the waiting list. You can find both the government and privatized housing numbers in the contact list. The website for privatized housing shows houses plus floor plans. The waiting list depends on rank, number of children, and type of housing. In the surrounding community, there are numerous apartments and single dwellings for rent as well as to buy. Visit their Lackland AFB Homes Facebook too. Single military personnel without children in pay grades E1 to E3 must live in a dormitory on base. There is no housing on base for E-5 and above or for single officers. There are 12 permanent party dormitories on Lackland, Lackland Training Annex, and the Kelly Annex. It is mandatory for all personnel storing privately owned firearms in their residence in family housing on base to register Page 2 of 43 MilitaryINSTALLATIONS - U.S. Department of Defense 10/7/18 their firearms with 802d SFS Pass and Registration. This must be done within three duty days for newly assigned personnel residing in base housing. Randolph AFB (JBSA-RND) military family housing is privatized. Hunt owns the family housing and is responsible for maintaining, repairing, constructing and managing the community. The Housing Management Office (HMO) is the first building on the left as you enter JBSA-Randolph via the main gate at building 144. Counselors offer referral services to on-base privatized housing and assist with locating housing accommodations in the local community.
