The Arteon is Volkswagen’s Gran Turismo – avant-garde model and all-rounder, while efficient and bursting with energy. Volkswagen is now enhancing the product line’s range with a second version as part of a world première: the new Arteon Shooting Brake – a sporty, progressive five-door model design statement. The new model will be launched throughout Europe in the second half of the year. Ralf Brandstätter, Chief Operating Officer and designated CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars: “The Arteon Shooting Brake offers additional space for a life in forward motion. It has been designed for all those car drivers that value individual style and innovative technologies just as much as ideal functionality and variability.” There has never been a similar Volkswagen like this before! Klaus Zyciora, Head of the Volkswagen Group Design department: “The Arteon Shooting Brake merges the progressive dynamism of a Gran Turismo with the multi-variable concept of an estate – newly interpreted and extremely expressive.” Arteon eHybrid – Zero emissions in the city Plug-in hybrid drive with 160 kW (218 PS). In parallel to the debut of the Arteon Shooting Brake, Volkswagen is introducing an extensive product line update. All new developments are applied in both body versions. For the first time in the Arteon, this includes a plug-in hybrid drive generating 160 kW (218 PS). “The worldwide demand for hybrid drive is growing. For this reason, we found it important to offer both Arteon versions as eHybrids featuring a plug-in hybrid drive as early as 2020”, Jürgen Stackmann says as the Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand with responsibility for Sales, Marketing and After Sales. Expanding on that, Dr Frank Welsch, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand with responsibility for Technical Development, adds: “The purely electric range of the vehicles is ample enough so that many drivers of the Arteon eHybrid and Arteon Shooting Brake eHybrid will be able to cover their daily trips without generating any © Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake / Volkswagen / June 2020 Page 4 emissions at all.” As a Fastback version and Shooting Brake, both Arteon models are amongst the first of their kind to be available as plug-in hybrids in the luxury mid-sized vehicle segment. Jürgen Stackmann: “The Arteon eHybrid and Arteon Shooting Brake eHybrid appeal equally to emotion and intellect – making them exceptions within their price segment.” Arteon R – Premium Performance by Volkswagen R Sports car engine with 235 kW (320 PS). R stands for Premium Performance within the Volkswagen brand. Empathy, progressivity and inspiration are reflected in each R model. Sportiness and expressive design are kept in balance with the expectations for everyday demands. These characteristics also dominate the new and first ever R models of the Arteon product line. In future they will form the sporty figurehead of the product family. Jost Capito, Head of Volkswagen R: “With the Arteon R and Arteon Shooting Brake R, Volkswagen is pushing further into the premium performance segment. It is not just the output of 320 PS that is fascinating here, but also the way these vehicles convert their power into propulsion. We have developed a new, progressive technology we call R-Performance Torque Vectoring. Here, selective wheel torque control not only variably distributes the drive force between the axles, but also between the rear wheels. And this creates a new level of driving dynamics.” Six high-tech TDI and TSI engines Highly efficient with low emissions. A total of three turbocharged petrol engines (TSI), two turbocharged diesel engines (TDI) and, as outlined, one plug-in hybrid drive (eHybrid) will be available for the Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake. The TSIs generate 140 kW (190 PS)1, 206 kW (280 PS)1 and 235 kW (320 PS) in the case of the R-TSI. The eHybrid also features a TSI. It develops 115 kW (156 PS) and is augmented by an electric motor with an output of 85 kW (115 PS). The TDI will be available with 110 kW (150 PS)1 © Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake / Volkswagen / June 2020 Page 5 and 147 kW (200 PS)1. All engines are characterised by high levels of efficiency, low emissions and powerful torque. Thanks to the innovative range of engine variants, the new Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake meet an extremely ample range of mobility demands. The high levels of efficiency of these powertrains are achieved by innovative engine and exhaust gas technologies throughout. TSI with B-cycle combustion process. The 2.0 TSI with an output of 140 kW features one of the technical innovations within the context of petrol engines. In this engine, the so-called B-cycle combustion process enables a particularly high combustion ratio which boosts efficiency by up to 10 percent. Results you can feel: lower consumption and lower emissions as well as more torque already at low engine speeds (320 Nm between 1,500 and 4,100 rpm). The TDI with twin dosing. Volkswagen is also applying new technologies in its turbocharged diesel direct-injection engines. Thanks to twin dosing – a dual SCR catalytic converter system (SCR: selective catalytic reduction) each with separate AdBlue injection – it generates up to 80 percent lower nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx), depending on the version. Up to now, twin dosing had only been available in the output range up to 150 PS. Twin dosing has now also arrived in the 200 PS category in the shape of the new Arteon 2.0 TDI with an output of 147kW / 200 PS. This turbocharged diesel engine can optionally also be combined with 4MOTION four-wheel drive. New assist systems Travel Assist – Assisted driving up to 210 km/h. The range of technical innovations involves powertrains as well as further IQ.DRIVE assist systems. New in this product line: Travel Assist. The system enables partly automated driving within a speed range from 0 km/h to 210 km/h. Travel Assist particularly makes driving in stop-and-go traffic and through roadworks tangibly safer and more convenient. An integral part of Travel Assist is the © Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake / Volkswagen / June 2020 Page 6 ACC with predictive speed control. The adaptive cruise control reacts to speed limits, towns, bends, roundabouts and junctions with corresponding speed adaptation. The Lane Assist lane keeping system that keeps the vehicle in the centre of the lane and Autonomous Emergency Braking Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring also form part of the range of Travel Assist functions. The Rear View reversing camera was further enhanced and now also features among other things a Corner View (which expands the camera image on the Infotainment system screen from 90 degrees to a wide angle of 170 degrees) and a special trailer view (of the tow bar from above to facilitate hitching up the trailer).
