Phillips NASCAR photographs, 1977-2000 Manuscript Collection No. 1366 Collection Description Biographical Note Roy A. Phillips was an amateur photographer and NASCAR fan from Jacksonville, Florida. Scope and Content Note The collection consists of 57 photograph albums and four scrapbooks complied by photographer Roy A. Phillips documenting National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) races from 1977-2000. The photographs are primarily of Winston Cup Series races (now called the Sprint Cup Series) but also feature races in other NASCAR series, including Busch Grand National (now called the Xfinity Series) and Autombile Racing Club of America (ARCA) series, especially the Daytona 500 and other Daytona Speedweek races such as the Busch Clash (now called the Sprint Unlimited), ARCA 200 (now called the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire), Goody's Sportsman 300 (now called the PowerShares QQQ 300), and the Twin 125 qualifying races (now called the Can-Am Duel). There are also numerous photographs of Daytona's Firecracker 400 (now called the Coke Zero 400), held annually in early July. Additional photographs are of races in Atlanta, Georgia; Charlotte, North Carolina; Darlington, South Carolina; and Talladega, Alabama. Many of the photograph albums are heavily annotated by Phillips with descriptions of the races. Though most photographs are of the races themselves, including wrecks, there are also photographs of the crowds and fans. Race names are specified when known and are the names in use for the races at the time the photographs were taken. The album of the 1990 Daytona 500 includes images of the filming of Days of Thunder. Scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings and NASCAR promotional material. Arrangement Note Arranged in chronological order. 2 Roy A.
