European-wide research infrastructure producing high-precision data on greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere, as well as on carbon fluxes between the atmosphere, earth and oceans. This is important because globally the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is rising continuously, causing the climate to change. The greenhouse gases flux between the ecosystems, atmosphere and oceans, and are transported in the atmosphere for thousands of kilometres, for example, from densely populated areas to the arctic. ICOS provides standardised
