By-catch: component of the catch that is not targeted and is discarded. By-product: component of the catch that is not targeted but retained as it has commercial value. Five Boat Rule: principle that all non-aggregated fishery data are confidential, and any aggregated data cannot be published unless the grouping contains at least five licence holders. Marine Fishing Area (MFA): A designated fishing area for reporting catch and effort data, these may vary among fisheries. Production: measure of the quantity of fish product landed by a fishery based on the catch records. Quota: a limit on the weight or number of fish that may be harvested from a particular stock, species, or area. Total Allowable Commercial Catch (TACC): weight or numbers of a species that may be harvested by the commercial sector within a given timeframe. Value: Beach Price.
